All the three colleges are few of the best in India and anyone will be lucky to get into one of them.
but there always be people who are too lucky and will have multiple converts and now will be facing dilemna which college is better suited for the profile they are looking for.
i know comparisons are not allowed on PG, but this is a not comparison rather a disccusion which has happened before also on PG

The threads are little old and i hope seniors and alumni from the three college could add to the information already provided.
i hope this threads survive for the sake of many students, and only genuine querries are posted and relevant information is posted.
Well i think segerating MDI from the lot will be easy. Anyone who is interested in marketing and not at all interested in operations and systems, and wants to live in NCR should go for MDI.
But there is almost no difference between SJsom and NITIE. Both the colleges are regarded as top institutes for operations in India. both are in Mumbai, apparently they are neighbours.
Though SJsom enjoy the tag of IIT and the facilities of IITB, it also have a smaller batch but the program costs 2Ls extra as compared to NITIE whose campus and facilities are not bad either.
wat bout finance?
mayurdhingra Sayswat bout finance?
i thnk MDI will score over the other two....
What do u puys say between MDI PGPIM and NITIE... i am asking the pros and cons of both and not promoting any direct comparision
For finance and consulting MDI Scores over the two of the big time
Nitie ,SJSOm are favorites for FMCG ,supply chain management .
As fars IT goes all of them have presence of big names like Amazon ,Google etc
Nitie has advantage of professors that are world renowned in the field of operations but carries a disadvantage of a huge batch size of 274(PGDIM) ,whereas Sjsom may become a favorite with a batch size of 120 and because of IIT tag
Hi all
Any mudslinging on either of the 3 colleges and stating of any statement mentioning any numbers/facts without supporting it with proof shall not be appreciated and thread would be closed immediately.

I am one of the guys who still does not have a concrete answer for "Why MBA?", after giving so many interviews . So I don't have any preference for specialization as of now. Thus, in case of SJMSOM convert (MDI convert too, but no NITIE for me ), I will face a dilemma.
I have following factors to consider.
1) Location - I am from Mumbai. So an obvious inclination towards SOM
2) Intended Specialization -
3) Brand - IIT is a brand, but not yet grown as a B school, unlike MDI. Being a BTech from IITM, preference would be for MDI.
4) MDI has diversity, an essential factor
IIT would "understand engineers". They may know it better how to convert engineers into managers.
Now all that depends on whether I get IITB convert. Else, I would happily pack bags for gurgaon
PS: Thanks Varun Sir for moderating this thread 😃
All three colleges are equally good....
catomania11 SaysWhat do u puys say between MDI PGPIM and NITIE... i am asking the pros and cons of both and not promoting any direct comparision
Can't compare but go for nitie unless you have fetish to work outside india (that too with slim chance and high costs)
what abt XL PM IR vs MDI PGPM ?? No inclination towards any branch.. 2 years work ex TCS..
For me NITIE was my dream college this year, which kicked me straight in the back and my reasons were....
1) good ROI
2) The life at MBA we have all heard is very hectec but from what I have heard and seen and most junta would agree life at NITIE is engineering reloaded only this time you have enough sense to use it for ur favour and participate and won in as many competitions as possible. no wonder you will see NITIE winning podiums in many great competitions.
3) Location being Mumbai is almost incomparable.
4) Its a brand as seriously recognised in Industry as MDI or IIT B
5) For me specialization was not a concern as long as I am getting a good profile and handsome package.
Only negative was the huge size (PGDIM + PGDIE)
Undoubtedly MDI and SJMSOM are equally great institutes to which I am looking forward to right now. But certainly for people "very keen" for Marketing/Finance/HR It should be MDI, there should'nt be any confusion with NITIE or SJMSoM.
Pardon me if I have broken any PG rules, I would be happy to edit/delete my post.
P.S: CAT 98.8----- MDI W/L - 145, but no intentions to draw people away from MDI. ATB!! 😃

Well i seriously hope you dont close the thread cause some idiotic person show his inconsideration for others.
rather you should ban him, many of us need guidance in selecting a b school and we need thread like this for help.
BTW can i add a poll regarding juntas prefrence between the three colleges?

Dude I may not be the right person to suggest you because I am myself wait listed in MDI but seriously people rarely leave XL (BM or PM IR) unless its old IIM/FMS
Reason being XL PM IR is THE best in the country, not even any IIMs would take its position and specially when you dont have any fascination towards a particular branch.

It will depend on what you want to do in future. XL PMIr is a gr8 course but if u want to go for marketing or finance then i would suggest go for mdi but again u will have to be 100 percent sure that you don't want hr or hr consulting related roles
since comparing bschools is not allowed here...does anyone know of a reliable site/source where i can see an updated and unbiased list of indian bschool rankiings...

Even for finance i would suggest mdi...both sjmsom and nitie are good but mdi has improved a lot as far as placements in finance are concerned

This query has already been asnwered by Varun sir in detail in the NITIE thread according to which what you have heard is just rumours. They have fulltime Phd profs for finance as well. Rest their placement stats speaks which is pretty much decent but yeah still if hardcore finance without any doubts you have in your mind then I would say go for MDI. It does score better in fin then NITIE or SJMSoM
