Puys,

In the recent years, General Knowledge & Awareness has become an integral part of most B-School entrance examinations. In the years to come, too, several schools are considering including GK as a criterion for selection - after all it is something every Manager is expected to have.

Some of the top institutes/examinations that have a GK component in their exams are:

->SNAP (for institutes under the Symbiosis University - SIBM Pune, SCMHRD, SIIB, SIBM Bangalore, SCIT, SIOM, SIMC, SITM, SSBM )
-> IIFT (Indian Institute of Foreign Trade - New Delhi & Kolkata - International MBA programs)
-> IRMA (Institute of Rural Management, Anand - Rural Management programs)
-> TISS (Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai - several Masters programs in Social Management/Entrepreneurship)
-> MICA (Mudra Institute of Communications & Advertising, Ahmedabad - Communications Management)
-> CMAT (Common Management Admissions Test - For institutes under the AICTE. Several states have scrapped their regional MBA entrance tests in favor CMAT. Hence institutes like SIMSREE, JBIMS, etc will be accepting CMAT)

Kindly use this thread for quoting current affairs & important updates, static GK that you might know, uploading GK material that you might want to share (kindly be aware of copyright violations), etc.

The knowledge that you will gain here will be of great use to you during your Group Discussions & Personal Interview stages as well.

Well i'll tell in brief about the Arab Spring and the Leaders Ousted..

Tunisia

President - Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali
Thrown out after - 23 years!
A Moderate Islamist Ennahda party won the country's first democratic elections.

Egypt
President - Hosni Mubarak
Thrown out After - 30 years!
The army is in charge of overseeing Egypt's transition to democracy.
Islamist Majority Party Freedom and Justice won the Elections held in November- December..

Libya
Ruler- Colonel Gaddafi
Thrown out After - 42 years
The National Transitional Council (NTC) is recognised by UN as Libya's legitimate ruling body..

Yemen
President - Ali Abdullah Saleh
Thrown out after - 33 Years!

Well to tell you in short as the major reasons behind these Uprising -
1. Wide Spread Corruption and Unemployment
2. Average Population of all these countries is less than 22 years and is unemployed!
3. Rulers ruling for ages and not bringing in any change
4. (A curious one) Do have a look at the map of all these countries and their boundaries. most countries have geometrical shaped boundaries meaning the regions have been divided without a lot of thought..
5. All the uprising sparked a by minor spark - for eg in Tunisia from what i have read, there was a guy who burned himself after not being allowed to self vegetables..
6. Social Networking also played a significant role.. One country achieved success so other felt even they could..

India's Inflation as per CPI (recently launched in late Feb,2012) : 7.65%

Contribution by workforce by sector
Agriculture: 52%
Services: 34%
Industry: 14%

37% Population below Poverty line.

Repo Rate : 8.5%
Reverse Repo rate : 7.5%

SLR : 24%
Bank Rate : 9.5%

Jasmine Revolution refers to the December-January mass uprising in Tunisia that overthrew president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali on January 15.It is known so because the national flower of Tunisia is Jasmine. It was sparked off by the self-immolation of vegetable vendor Mohamed Bouazizi, when he was humiliated by a woman constable on December 17. It was christened the Jasmine Revolution by the media in keeping with the geopolitical nomenclature of 'colour revolutions. The movement grew over the issues of unemployment, food inflation, corruption, lack of freedom of speech and poor living conditions and overflowed into Egypt where it has been raging.

Yes you are right.. But these exams still have a long time to go.. And generally GK=Current Affairs.. The current posts are relevant as it might help junta for GD,WAT,PI..
The static GK can start a bit late as well..
And nothing wrong in knowing more and more of current affairs..
