Hi ,
I am a Computer Engg .
I am working in one of the Top 3 IT firms in India.
I have a work experience of 18 months as off August 2011.
I am basically a SAP ABAP Developer.
I want to pursue my PG from SCIT because i don't want my technical education to be wasted and i want to leverage my SAP Experience.
1. With the above profile what are my chances ?
2. I am confused regarding which specialisation to choose between
Systems and SSM.
3. What would be the job profiles offered to the above two ?
4. Which would suit me so as to continue with the experience i have ?
5. I have confusion regarding the cut offs.
It is mentioned on the website that the General category cut off for
2011-2013 Batch is 63.75.
So what is 63.75 ?
Final Score = SNAP Score + 10 marks for scoring more than 60% in
each of 10th, 12th and aggregate of qualifying graduate exam + 5
marks for Engineering Graduates + 5 marks for Graduates with
Computers Science/ Computer application/ IT + 5 marks for relevent full
time Work experience above 18 months as on 1st September 2011, if
any, + 5 marks for scoring more than 25% marks in each section of
SNAP Test .
So the cut off score is out of 180 or is it the final Score computed ?
Kindly solve the above queries.
I am desperate to do my PG from SCIT as i think it would be the perfect balance of technical and management skills
Thanks in advance !
Cheers

SCIT Aspirant
Hi Parth
Let me solve your queries:
1. You have very good chances of making it into SCIT.
2. SCIT doesn't have any specialization based Programme Structure from past 2 years. Now it has an elective based Programme structure. You can look into the following link to find the 2011-13 Batch Programmer Structure which explains the whole elective based structure: Academics : Programmes : MBA : Symbiosis Centre for Information Technology (SCIT)
With this you will be able to choose subjects from both Systems & SSM.
3. Possible careers in Systems would be Business Process Analysis, Systems Analysis, Systems Design, Solution Architecture, Software Quality, Software Testing, Techno-commercial Analysis for customized software leading to potential positions such as Project Leader/Manager, Enterprise Systems Manager, CIO, IT Managers etc. although some of them begin with software development.
Possible Careers in SSM(Software Solutions & Management) : These software professionals will have capabilities to confidently engineer, implement and manage efficient software solutions with an informed strategic vision. This enables them to take leadership positions in consulting services, software design and engineering services, software quality and technocommercial activities of software product and services.
4. This depends on your interest of subjects. Please go through the programme structure of 2011-13 and look for courses from Systems & SSM. This will give you a picture of what courses are under SSM and Systems. The programme structure for 2012-14 would be on similar lines which would be uploaded soon.
5. The cutoff you see on the website : "The SNAP cut off score for SCIT 2011-2013 is given as 63.75 for OPEN Category". This is the SNAP score cutoff for last year (2011), this was the minimum score that a candidate had to score in order to get a GDPI call from SCIT. This is not the overall Final Cutoff.
Hope I solved your queries. Wish you all the best!
Thanks

Hi Rohit
You need to pay Rs. 1550 for SNAP Test & to apply for SCIT you need to pay Rs. 1000.
Since you have paid for both the SNAP Test and SCIT, you have nothing else to pay for.
Please note down the SNAP ID and other details in the process.
Thats it. Prepare well for SNAP! Give your best shot!
Thanks

SNAP as u would be knowing will measure speed vs accuracy.Try solving previous year papers and if u can get TIME/CL mock SNAP series for 2011 that would be useful. GK is an area where u can fetch marks easily provided u are aware of all major developments during this year.Such GK compendiums will be readily available on net ,again i would recommend "Time-Education & Careers" magazine their last 5-6 subscriptions which will give u a snap shot all turnarounds in 2011.

i heard that the companies that come for recruitment take students in sparse numbers...say two or three... is it so??
thayasg Saysi heard that the companies that come for recruitment take students in sparse numbers...say two or three... is it so??
Hi thayasg
Yes this is true in a sense. Companies do come in for recruitment and take students in small numbers unlike Engineering Colleges where students are recruited in volumes. This is the case in all B-Schools, Companies come in with a specific requirement and recruit students only for those specific profiles.
If you visit the link below, you will see the number of recruiters and the number of placement offers.
Also, For other placement related figures and numbers, you can always visit this link: Placements & Internships : Symbiosis Centre for Information Technology (SCIT)
