When did u apply? - 10-02-2012, 02:22 PM
Hi Dilip,
When did u apply?
Could uplz share ur profile.
I am in process of applying.
Kind Regards,
Sher SIngh Mann.
Hello SherMann & gurlovleen,
Great to see some enthusiasm for DSB.
I suggest you kindly post a reply in this thread rather than sending a private message, the discussion could be helpful for all.
Well, coming to my profile:
B.E (Hons) Computer Science
Exp: 5 years
Extra Curricular and achievements: pretty good
GMAT: 650
IELTS: 7.5
Regarding Essays:
Collating what the internet speaks about admission essays and my experiences, below are what I feel, key aspects to keep in mind while constructing the essays:
0. Be sincere with the writings, sit down and introspect yourself, recollect all your experiences, even the minute ones which bring out what you are.
1. Be clear, sensible and confident about:
-Why MBA
-Why now
-Why DeGroote
2. Showcase a clear constructive approach to pursuing this course, making it clear that this is the best next step to your career.
3. Explain yourself in a distinct manner; make sure you do not boast too much.
4. Use good English, take help from people who are good at it, but do learn from the experience. After you are done with the rough draft, fine tune it three or four times, to filter unwanted content or to add something better.
5. See what is being asked and answer appropriately. Though you beat around the bush, make sure it is a necessary inference for what you intend to put forth.
Regarding Interview:
0. Well, the first thing to keep in mind is that its going to be a long one, , so be prepared mentally.
1. Next, it is a behaviour based interview, which means that the interviewer is interested to know your past behaviour when you faced various challenging situations. The questions will be in line with that. Check internet for sample questions.
2. Be confident, speak simple but good English.
3. Since the interviewer is from a different cultural background, try to adjust your tone, speed and sentence construction to make him/her understand your point.
4. Use the STAR approach to answer. Situation, Task, Action and Result. Check the internet, there is lots of information available.
5. During the interview, have some water with you, you might need it badly.
Let me know if you need more info.
Regards,
Hi dilipbulls,
Congrats on getting selected. Would you be able to share some more details regarding the interview, like the kind of questions they asked? I have my interview scheduled next week. I am wondering what they make us do in the interactive round. Could you plz give me an idea?
Thanks
Hello ahmba,
Well the interview could be split into 3 parts:
1. General interaction
2. Behavioral based interview
3. Task to be performed
In the first part you could have a good casual discussion regarding the program , this could relieve the interview tension. Before the interview, I suggest you try to know as much as possible about the program and make a list of questions in case you have any.
In the second part, its those typical behavioral based questions that you could be asked and nothing beyond those. Go through those in the link:
Sample Behavioral Job Interview Questions
Third part is a little spontaneous element, all that I can say is that it is very much do-able and you do not need to prepare for it. Think quick depending what is asked and be at your best.

Thanks for the info dilipbulls.
And how many days did it take for them to give you the final decision ?
They got back to me in 4 days time... I was lucky enough
On the other hand, its been more than 20 days for my friend but she hasn't got a response yet, so its a mixed bag.
My prediction -- they finish one round of admission decisions by Feb end, so in case your interview is completed next week, you should be hearing back by the end of this month.
My interview is on the 24th. So let's hope I get to hear from them by Feb end...
hi all
As I did my interview on-line (SKYPE) when do you think they should reply..
any body had the same on-line interview????????????
Hi,
Please let me know the reputation of the college in terms of Job Placements and Ranking in Canada?

Well.. the School is pretty reputed in the Canadian market but not as much in India ... The quality of education is very good and especially the Co-op program is tailor made for people newly entering the Canadian market and like to be absorbed by employers there. Placements are pretty good, but believe me, if you are a great candidate, there is nothing you cannot achieve... its all a matter of what you are 😐

regarding companies that come to DSB, check this link:

and also other sources/employment reports from the internet

Dude... anyone who doesn't reside in Canada/US has his interview through skype... so that is no surprise...
how did your interview go?

ahmba...
got any news to share?
has anyone got an admit into DSB? whats the buzz after FEB?
hi dilipbulls,
Still waiting for the decision. I even mailed them yesterday asking when can I expect my decision. They replied back saying 2-3 weeks. Don't know how much longer it's gonna take. Meanwhile I have got an admit from SUNY Buffalo. Now I am really in a fix. I am not sure where I wanna go. People say a US MBA has more value than a Canadian one. What's your take on this? I mean,I know in Canada it will have great value but what if I want to shift my base to US or say India 5-6 years from now. Will my McMaster MBA have the same value as a US MBA?
Well.. i believe that its what you are that takes you where you go... and from quality of education side, it really doesn't matter either SUNY or DSB, both are excellent with what they can transform you into. I suggest you to be unconventional in your thought, just do what you feel is good and not what the world says. 5 years down the lane, after you have worked with the world's leading brands, acquired broad range of experience and are planing to come back to India, it really doesn't matter where you have did your MBA, all that matters at that point in time is how much you have learnt.
Regarding US/canada part, Yes US salaries are higher than that of Canada, but Canada is a safer place to live. Believe me you wouldn't have even got a green card in the US by the time you are a citizen of Canada. So both have good and bad, decide based on what you want and what you can sacrifice.
Well I got an admit, but however I did not get what I wanted- the co-op program. I've been told that my application is on hold for the co-op program due to the limited number of seats in co-op.
