Promotional Avenues For CISF:- The person joining as Constable becomes eligible for promotion to the rank of Head Constable after 8 years of service. After 13 years service including 8 year service as Head Constable, he becomes eligible to the rank of Sub-Inspector. After 16 years service including 3 years service as Sub-Inspector, he becomes eligible to the rank of Inspector After 19 years service including 3 years as Inspector, he becomes eligible to the rank Subedar Major On completion of 5 years of service as Inspector / Subedar Major, he is considered for promotion as Assistant Commandant. Promotion to the rank of Assistant Commandant (Junior Time Scale) takes place from four sources, viz. 50% by promotion from the rank of Inspector, 10% by absorption of security officers from PSUs, 10% by re-employment of ex-army officers and 30% by direct recruitment through Civil Services Examination. Assistant Commandant becomes eligible for the promotion of Deputy Commandant (Senior Time Scale), after 6 years of service The recruitment to the post at the Commandant level (Junior Administrative Grade) is used to be done as (a) 50% by promotion; (b) 40% by deputation from IPS; (c) 10% by Optees and Re-employed personnel. At the DIG level, there are 24 posts, out of which 40 per cent were available to the cadre, the remaining 60 per cent being filled by the IPS Officers on deputation. There are 5 IG level posts in the CISF out of which 33.3 per cent i.e. 2 posts are already available to the cadre
