Review of SKUs in the Indian Paint Industry - Devendra Kumar Pandey, Amity Gwalior

This paper was published in Indian Journal of Marketing, Volume 43

A stock keeping unit or SKU is a unique identifier for each distinct product that can be purchased. SKUs are used in data management, enabling the company to systematically track its inventory or product availability. Each SKU is attached to a Product, Shade and Pack Size. The Decorative or architectural segment (which constitutes about 70% of the total paint market) involves a very wide choice in terms of products, shades and pack sizes. In addition to this, in order to offer innovative products, companies are continuously offering newer shades to match the colour of carpets/curtains etc. Initially, these shades are produced in anticipation and once the market accepts these shades, they are produced regularly. While Industrial Paints are available in bulk packs of 20lt and 200lt, decorative paints are available in 20lt, 10lt, 4lt, 1lt, 500ml, 200ml, 100ml and 50ml packs. Enamel category alone has got around 720 SKUs. The combination of different products, shades and packs sizes resulted in over 2500 SKUs for Asian Paints. Through a survey of paint dealers, effort has been made to analyze the reasons for accumulation of slow moving stock, and the solutions adopted by the dealers to liquidate these stocks. The paper concludes by suggesting remedies to deal with high inventory cost and a large number of SKUs.

Incubators Help Business Students Become Entrepreneurs

The path to securing a job while in business school for a student is either through joining an established company or through start-ups. An incubator can be a perfect bridge to make the big step from idea to execution. Students at business schools with incubators, however, may have a more direct route to joining a start up or launching their own. "An incubator is like learning to ride a bike with training wheels". A business school incubator can connect budding entrepreneurs with experienced professionals who could advise on - creating new technology, marketing, funding and other useful sources.

Today there are about 1,250 incubator programs in the U.S. According to a 2015 report from the National Business Incubation Association about 32 percent of North American business incubators were sponsored by academic institutions.

In the context of Indian Universities the Amity Innovation Incubator is a pioneering concept. Supported by DST, Ministry of Science & Technology, GOI, 'Amity Innovation Incubator ' has in a very short time of its existence earned an enviable position for itself with start-ups which have regularly been on top of the innovation curve and have been recognized on platforms like: The Power of ideas, Read Herring Global winner, Tata NEN and NASSCOM Innovation Awards.

Amity University Madhya Pradesh provides students to get the advantage of Incubator by providing Amity Innovation Incubator's unique internship program that offers its students with an opportunity to get exposed to the process of Entrepreneurship via live internships program with Incubatee organisation. While working with the Incubatees, students learn to wear multiple hats and act as a trouble shooter to resolve live business problems.

Sangathan is an Inter-Amity Annual Sports Competition . It's a month long sports festival held at Amity where students can participate in various competitions like basketball, badminton, volleyball, athletics, tug-of-war etc . The students who win here in Gwalior can participate in the final matches in Amity Noida. Sangathan is filled with gusto and excitement; and here the students can show their passion and talent as well as learn sportsmanship, resilience and teamwork.

Amity Gwalior is not primarily just about educating. Motivating students in each section is the mantra of the university and therefore, clubs according to the interest areas are formed. Viggyaan, Srajan and parikalp are the names of the science club, the cultural club and the literature club respectively. The students don't only learn and teach new things between themselves under their respective groups, but they also partake in activities that in turn develop authoritative skills in them. They grow up in different aspects and learn to handle everything happening within their groups!!(i.e conducting events, interviews for the core team and so on)

WIFI @ AMITY GWALIOR

Internet is one of those things that our generation can swear by and hence Wifi is something we can't imagine to live without. Well, Amity Gwalior is a splendid caterer to its students' wifi and internet urges.

Be it an urgent assignment completion or a super important ticket booking for a hostel student, the Amity Wifi with its swifft speed is always a savior.

The best part about it is that despite thousands of students using the internt all at once the speed that the all-round campus wifi provides is astonishingly unwavering.

Bored in class (which is really rare because the classes are really intriguing) surf the smooth internet, wanna be a know it all, check out the answers to your assignments at that very instant, wanna play ludo with friends online, go for it, wanna share an educational video with the class which you couldn't save, well, Amity Gwalíor's wifi ...straight to the rescue.

The 24X7 high speed  internet facilities are one of the most charming things about AMity Gwalior.

As a recommendation of UGC , Amity Gwalior introduced Choice Based Credit System( CBCS) , which enables student to study interdisciplinary subjects.I think it's a very good system to obtain more credits also it provides the students an opportunity to persue their own intrest, hobbies parallel to their academic engagement. In this , the students can choose a subject apart from his/her discipline and thus along with earning a major degree one can persue a minor degree too.

Hi everyone. So, it is the season of exams at Amity Gwalior. The whole student body is in a spree of learning and studying. The corridors and classes echos with silence and whispers of students studying. And perhaps this is the only time when libraries have no extra room. During exams at Amity, I often sence a feeling of togetherness and oneness as the students help one another and the support by faculty. Exams are indeed important to evaluate oneself and I wish everyone all the luck to do good in the exams.

Hi everyone, if we talk about how life at Amity is for the students, its pretty lively as the campus of Amity Gwalior provides many recreational outputs. There are common rooms for boys and girls where students can relax and study. Along with canteens in every blocks, there are cafes and food outlets like Scorpion and Amul Cafe. Then the whole campus is wifi. For the sports lovers there are basketball, badminton, football, volleyball, cricket and tennis courts with indoor games available too. Libraries are open from morning to night for the avid readers.
