GUEST LECTURE ON ORGANIZATIONAL CHANGE
To portray an industry perspective to the topic 'Organistion Change', a two hour guest interaction was organised for PGDM-II Trimester students on 24th December 2012 in the Auditorium. The guest speaker was Mr.Dheerandhar Singh, GM(Networks) from TV Today Network. The speaker shared his thoughts and experiences on deliberated topic with a blend of theory and activities. To honour the guest, students gave an introductory welcome followed by a bouquet.
The session was enriching and thought provoking for the students as the speaker shard his industry experiences through relevant examples. It commenced with an introduction to the fact that 'Change' in an organisation is inevitable. But before we proceed to change the organisation or the world we live in, we first will have to change ourselves. If a person does not readily accept or incorporate change in his life, he ends up no-where in his personal and work life. So, welcome and accept the change and take proactive steps to manage the change.
The speaker educated the students about the forms of change –Planned & Unplanned. It was also clarified through an activity that change comes at a cost – of time and money. The students learnt about the different factors of change- external and internal which compel change. Some Organisational Change theories and OD Interventions were also highlighted for enabling a holistic understanding of the topic. The speaker used some videos to emphasize the utility of teams and team work. He educated students about the wonders a team can do and make the impossible 'possible'. Students were made aware about the unavoidable resistance to change and the ways to tackle such resistance.
The students were provided some time towards the end to raise any queries on the topic. To culminate the session, a motivational song was played for students to instil in them the necessity for change to enable both personal growth and career progression. Stress was also laid on setting some goal for life and adopting required changes to achieve the set goal.
The session was highly interactive and the students experienced a good learning.
The Guest lecture was organised by Prof.Charu Choudhary, Prof.Shikha Arora and Prof.Charu Sharma.

He told why Microsoft is not taking any action against usage of pirated software in India that it is the policy on how to make people habitual of using their s/w and later on by compulsion they have to purchase it. He enlightened us several advantages of using Free Software like that we have complete control on every part of the software being used, have complete permission to change the same if it is required and if we face any of the problem in doing so then there are so many peoples in the world who are there for the support. Dr. Das also informed that we should be free to use the software, its applications, its permission and to enhance its capabilities as per our needs and this flexibility is not available with the proprietary software.
While addressing Dr. Das spoke on technical & research abilities of Indian Scientist at Global level and informed that ISRO and other Govt. organization are using rigorously free software to develop their own applications and ISRO has developed its own software related to launching of INSAT 2A and afterwards its other variations to install those in geo-orbit. For the same development, USA and other countries stopped giving aid regarding other related developments but the Indian Scientists did not stop working and developed their own s/w to be used in their related research issues and proved their abilities.
Dr. Das also informed that there are some other good MNC's like TCS, HCL and other software companies who are developing their applications using free software technologies just because of having flexibility of permission to work as per our requirements and promoting the development on this platform. Dr. Das ended his talk with the sentence “Freedom cannot be Stopped”.
Earlier, Student member of CSI welcomed Dr. Debesh Das and introduced him with the audience. The talk was ended with vote of thanks to Eminent Speaker, Invited Guests, participating MCA Students and the present Faculty members by the CSI Student Branch @ITS.This was, indeed, an informative talk on how to start moving towards using Free software.

STORY OF THE WEEK:
One day a father and his rich family took his son to a trip to the country with the firm purpose to show him how poor people can be. They spent a day and a night in the farm of a very poor family. When they got back from their trip the father asked his son,
How was the trip? Very good Dad!; replied his son.
Did you see how poor people can be?; the father asked. ;Yeah!
And what did you learn? The son answered, I saw that we have a dog at home, and they have four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of the garden; they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lamps in the garden; they have the stars. Our patio reaches to the front yard, they have a whole horizon.
When the little boy was finishing, his father was speechless.
His son added, Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are!
LESSON: Our outlook on life depends on the way you look at things. What others may think as riches, others may want. The most important things in life are your friends, family, health, good humor and a positive attitude towards life. If you have these then you have everything!
