DAY 1 : 9TH JULY 2007

Hey guys the rains couldnt stop and so couldnt the excitement ... It felt as if the rains with them were bringing a new beginning to our careers, our dreams and our aspirations. D day was right hereAll the pre-joining excitement, the orkut-networking of 60 odd junta and a mammoth of ideasphew u name it we had it..

But as soon as we entered the BSchool in smaller groups, welcomed by the smiling (and anxious) faces of our seniors, we the juniors of one of the most upcoming BSchools, SIESCOMS , were suddenly gripped by the aura of the place. A silent and serene atmosphere existed inside the institute which advocated the sense of seriousness of the institute. We registered ourselves, got the roll numbers and were divided into 2 sections according to them and with the same enthusiasm entered the auditorium.

What welcomed us there was a set of mentors (seniors who would lead us to the whole 3 day orientation), a few faculty members and the guest speaker who had come there for induction. Soon the clock showed 9:30 and our director Dr.Senagupta entered the auditorium. He welcomed one and all and briefed us up with what an MBA is all about. Why does the industry require the well groomed managers, why the BSchool students should move out of the student centric syndrome and the notion of being taught at a
BSchool.

Then came Mr.Rangnekar who briefed us up with his experiences in life. He gave us a real time situation as in how we as managers would attract the clientsA very interesting aspect was the 20 sec timeframe he spoke about..wherein the clients concentration is at its peak for the initial 20 sec..if one snatches the client in that time..he gets him more often than not!!

After that came faulty induction. A lot of faculty members introduced themselves in their own way. Some with their sher-o-shayaris and some with their specialization jargons.
Was fun!!!

The day ended with collecting our Books which looked like our 2 yr stock but we were shattered when the seniors told this was just for the first yr..phew..Also we got our very own laptops woow a TOSHIBA SATELLITE M200 loaded with WINDOWS VISTA..one helluva machine guys!!

We all went back only to know that the day begins @ 9 trmw!!!!

Finally got some time to post something, as Anmol and Santa said, the induction program was excellent. Personalities like Mr Mani is what any MBA aspirant would like to emulate. A big round of applause to all our seniors who made the passage into SIES a bit easier. You guys are the best
All the professors we have had till now are pretty chilled out.. no complaints... but must mention Prof Girish K as a livewire... he makes sure no one sleeps in his class.....:wow: without any threats.

The rains have stopped pourin in over mumbai for the time being ...but that hasnt stopped the rainin presentations and the Idea research assignments .

Congrats to one and all... who have got thru the diff Committee's .. Lookin forward to workinn u all..

The nex cpl of days r gonne b extremely busy in sbmittin the research proposals..Eco class today was gr8 ..

As my friends Anmol, Santosh and Vikram have put things in detail, i can only add on by sayin that life @ a B- School is both fun and replete with challenges... fun as in we management games n stuff.... challenges as in meetin project and assignment deadlines..
U interact with people of various kinds......In SIESCOMS, there is tremendous focus on intellectual development albeit, with a different approach that is thru games and interactive sessions.... Case studies are discussed from n number of angles and faculty go out of their way in ensuring that students get the concepts.... Video sessions is somethin that has been introduced recently... We had Mr Sumantra Ghoshal, the distinguished professor of London Business School giving precious insights on how managers need to plan and implement tasks. Can't wait to have more of those..... SIESCOMS TRULY ROCKS

HELLO Juntas..
As Arvind said I too seem to have missed lot of action here..not exactly I was there in the college to enjoy the moments live..
Before I start a brief intro for who dont know me
Agent- Prasad
Code- B98
Work ex-25 mnths..
Commitees- Idea Research/Entrepreneurship Club...
Also the one of the Qualifiers of the elite group of Business Quiz maniacs...
@ Santosh..
The introduction of Mani Sir as a full time faculty for Career Counselling..yaar itself
is a great idea Thanks to Sengupta Sir..(where the hell does SIESCOMS gets these unique
Ideas from.)
Talking abut unique Ideas ...Being a proud committee member of IDEA RESEARCH..I would like to give brief background of the activites done ...

An idea is an image, a concept or abstraction formed and existing in the mind.
And Research is a human activity based on intellectual investigation and aimed at discovering, interpreting, and revising human knowledge on different aspects of the world

So what does Idea Research imply, it is maneuvering that abstract concept in mind to a proper path with the help of research.
That was the practice which was initiated by SIESCOMS in the year 2006 in the form the IDEA RESEARCH COMMITTEE with the Tagline Where Ideas Evolve through Research.
The basal purpose of the initiative was to reining in the ginormous energy, ardour, passion, and potential of young minds and makes them understand the importance of research tools that can be applied in industry for recognition of business opportunities and solution to business issues.
This unique concept was undertaken by the students from the PGDBA, MMS, PGPM, PGDBBM, and PGDBF under the guidance of Dean of the college Dr. A. K. Sengupta and other faculty members.
During the first phase of Idea research, fifteen research projects were undertaken by the students.
The researches undertaken were impingement based, yet simple, with value-addition as well as relevance for the economy, society, and business.
These researches were an interesting mix of primary as well as secondary studies.

The research reports completed were as follows:
  1. Marketing Strategies used by NGOs
  2. Foreign Direct Investment
  3. What Do The Corporate Look For In B-School Graduates
  4. Aerated Versus Non-Aerated Drinks
  5. Epidemics and Capacity Of The Indian Pharmaceutical Industry To handle It
  6. Effectiveness Of Advertising
  7. Preference For Alternative Medicine In Mumbai
  8. A Comparative Study of the use of Indigenous and Imported Raw Materials and Equipments used by the Indian Biotechnology Sector
  9. Public sector and Private sector Banks In India: A Comparison,
  10. Indian Banking: Evolution Development And Challenges,
  11. Treatment And Disposal Of Bio-Medical Wastes,
  12. Are MBA students avid newspaper readers?
  13. Online Shopping in India
  14. An Innovative Framework for Marketing of Non-profits: A Concept Paper
  15. Behavioral Finance in Investment Allocation

Once the research was completed by the students, SIESCOMS organized a paper presentation event Yuktimanthan 2007.
All the reports were sieved through blind umpiring and six papers were selected for the next level of competition for the Best Idea Research Paper award and the rolling trophy. The paper Bio-Medical Waste Management presented by the Pharmacy students won the award and the rolling trophy for the Best Idea Research Paper.
The event was judged by an eminent panel of judges, comprising of Dr. L. M. Bhole, Professor, Dept. of Humanities & Social Sciences, IIT, Mumbai, Mr. Dinesh Narayanan, Senior Assistant Editor, Times of India, Mr. R. Krishnamurthy, MD, Watson & Wyatt Insurance and Mr. Harish Aiyer, Director, Softcell Technologies.
And at the end of the event Dr. L. M. Bhole released a compendium of all the fifteen Idea Research papers.
This was last year now this year the new researches have been started...and will see to it that the legacy continues...
SIESCOMS ROCKS
AND ITS MAKING ME ROCK ALSO.....
