at pagalguy.com , now its time to shake things up a bit ;)
A few of you must have visited our portal at pagalguy.com , and would have also noticed how much it lacks , when it comes to fresh content .. In order to change things around and provide the junta more power than before, we are planning to experiment with the junta writing articles for the portal :)
Keeping in mind that we are slowly growing beyond CAT and are today a place where the youth discuss everything from football to politics, it is only fair enough that the true writers get a chance to get published on our portal.
we have been working out on the rules, regulations and policies before publishing and here is a rough draft for your perusal. The entire work was done by Apurv and is as under. Whatcha think folks ?
I] Sections :
1 "The CAT Act" : Share a brainwave, a killer strategy or an amusing experience
2 "All world's a stage" : Write your own opinion column about the world around us
3 "It happened one night..." : Write personal experiences, a travelogue or a whacky thing that happened to you
4 "The BSchool Spool" : Tell us about your travails in that confusing place called BSchool
5 "Sport Court" : Tendulkar, Schumacher, Zidane... need we say more ?
6 "Pagal Studio" : Do you click ? Show us how !
All sections are tentative and have been planned out in such a way to cover most of the writings you guys can dish out. However, if you have any more suggestions - just belt it out :D
II] Rules for Contributors :
- Originality in writing is Top Priority. If you write about a CAT trick/tip, write it yourself. Take your time to explain it in a lucid and clear way. But cut-copy-paste is a BIG no no. Any violations would result in a ban and removal of all content by that user.
- Write complete English words. If u rite it lk dis, its nt axeptable.
Editors cannot torture themselves resolving SMS-type shorhand.
- Follow Word Limit.
- All contributions should be accompanied with a functional email address.
(We should be able to contact the writer if we need to)
- Control use of Smileys.
- Avoid emotive/judgemental language. - i.e be decent.
- No phone numbers in article.
- No advertising.
Approximate guideliness for editors:
When to REJECT articles
- If it is flat, directionless. pointless or gibberish.
- If it is found to be copied.
- If it is arrogant, vulgar, obscene in content or language.
- If it advertises something pointless enough.
- If accompanying email address of contributor turns out to be fake.
When to RETURN article for rework
- If the point made is good, but language etc is a mess.
- If the article is too long, needs to be cut down.

well a brialliant and great idea to start with although it came a lil late..newayz better late then never...
it was a great need to start the mentioned things as it wud give a gr8 chance for us junta to use their prowess of their creativity.
hope the mods keep up their gr8 work of dishing out gr8 ideas......... š long live PG
yeah nice concept pg! id love to c more creativity in flow at pg also it would b nice if the very old articles or threads at pg are shifted to archives or somn..also can u guys suggest some new stuff?! lets get a creative burst!!

May be we would also include a rule to the effect that stories can be submitted only by forum members who have a minimum of 15 posts ?
wel i told u pg idea is great..but u no i kinda feel the topics enlisted are too guy-guy..i mean how many women are really manU or sport zonkies..shouldnt we have somn more universal?like music or movies wen u talk entertainment..or is the idea to jus have articles on jus any damn topic under the stars?? do they HAVE to be real life incidents..or are we allowed to let our imagination run wild?clarify

Since we are a community and do tend to know most of the regular posters, it makes sense to read actual real life excerpts when it comes to travelling etc. Imaged stories on the front page of a portal ... err. don't think so.
Um.. about the too guy-guy thing, it does make a sense, but adding something like entertainment or movie reviews ... is not something a majority of our junta would care about , since there are enough sites out there which carry such stuff.
If you notice, the kind of articles etc .. are all based on the person and his personal views and perspective. They have to do mainly with CAT, The World, Sports, Personal Experiences and Photography. All personal experiences and thoughts.

The outline makes sense as well.
But yeah i do hope that there is a clear distiction of ZONES b/w these articles etc and the Zones for the CAT info.
I mean i just hope this wont lead to flooding of the forum with the extra stuff more than the real thing we really coming together for.
So let the Hard Core CAT etc. Related stuff havea clearly demarkated area.
M sure u guys must have thought about it, just adding my 2 pence to it.

Sports is just one of the topics, the rest are quite unisexual.

, who's asking for proof of the reality of the incidents anyways ;).On a serious note, just think : the very phrase "Personal experiences" carries so many connotations
. You say movies/music ? Sure! write up a personal xp based on these topics... ('personal' being the keyword here). Of course, I'm not pointing towards that rather trippy dope experience you had with a Pink Floyd CD , but for eg, I once read this guy's lovely write up about radio stations in Mumbai and how he used to thrive on it during schooldays... see what I'm pointing at ?Don't review a movie/Audio CD. Because its stuff that you can Google up anyday.
In fact, if we get a really good fiction short story that really catches our eye, I'm sure we wont let it go waste :D, whatsay PG?

1) Can I rehash stuff that I might have used on some of the posts here and say some yahoogroups ?
2) What about the copyright stuff ? Once published on PG can I publish the same content elsewhere ?
3) What is the word limit ? I didn't get it on scanning your mail.

Interesting Qs.
1) If they are your own posts, rehash should not be a problem, provided this does not become a copy/paste job. There is a difference between the kind of stuff you would post on a thread and what you would put up on the front page of the portal.
2) Glad you asked it . The answer would be NO. For a very simple reason, I can't see a reason why we would allow the opposite. Would we allow an article to be put up on the portal, if it was found elsewhere on some other website .. ? I don't think so.
3) Word limit hasn't been set. So you haven't seen it yet. Any ideas on what can be an acceptable word limit ? š

The idea here is more about encouraging people to WRITE, than share information about CAT. Of course, the latter is also an objective.
The difference is in the manner of writing. On the forum, you write casually and for functionality.
On the portal, you write for displaying your communication skills. You could even write on your resume that you had an article published on pg.com
(1) I meant could I use the answers that I have given in some of the posts as a starting point and add content to make it into an article worthy of a portal frontpage.
(2) Okay, no problems as to the content part. I have never heard of anyone (so far) having made his first million publishing articles on pg.com
(3) I think the length is a subjective issue. I think there should be a maximum length equal to something that each post on the board allows (I don't know how much this is). But the prerogative to write articles which are succinct enough to capture the reader's interest is left to the writer, and to be decided by the reviewer.
I think there could be a lot more interesting things incorporated into this. Like there could be a poll on which articles readers want to see, a weekly competition on a given topic, each article could be rated on how useful it was to the reader etc.
The writer within me is really looking forward to this :)

PS: Just wondering if people would contribute quant tips too ? Not me though, as I mention, whenever anyone asks me about my quant skills : "There are 3 kinds of people : those who can count and those who cannot"

3) Lets go without any limit for now. Lets see how the junta responds and the kind of articles that come in
