Hi,
I am planning to do an Executive MBA in the coming cycle.
I am 35, have 10 years IT experience in a reputed Indian IT company. I have engineering background , have good acads and also considerable years of on-site work experience in UK/Europe.
Due to budget considerations, I prefer to do Ex MBA in India.........
However I have some questions regarding executive MBA for which I am looking for answers.
1. Can I do a career shift from IT to Finance/Consulting after doing an Ex MBA at this stage ?
2. If there is little scope of a career change at this stage, what role change in IT can I expect after Ex MBA. Currently I am working as a Project Lead and deputed in UK.
3. Will it be a hasty decision to apply for an MBA now during such uncertain economic condition prevailing in Europe/America ?
4. Will there be any benefit to go for a full time MBA at this stage of my career ?
1. Yes
2. You will have the possibility of a choice in most institutes and you can always choose a new line post the ExEd.
3. Education will not be a hasty decision especially during these times. It is definitely going to pay you off. India is more stable than Europe and demand for your age and experience people with MBA will certainly not wane away. Most of the fellow students that you will see will be 7-15 years work ex.
4. Go only for Full time course from a premier institute - they will offer very good placement support also.
Regards the finances - Indian banks offer Education Loans upto 90% and also Indian Income Tax allows some benefit for Edu Loan payments.
Check out IIM-A - PGPX - IIMA
Considered one of the best.
IIM-B also has one - Executive Post Graduate Programme in Management | Indian Institute of Management Bangalore
Other IIMs - ?
ISB is good (but may be too crowded) - has two progs - PGP, PGPMAX
This one is not in India - S P Jain School of Global Management, Dubai, Singapore, Sydney - Executive MBA Program - But they might have a prog in India also
GMP Home
MDI Gurgaon - ?
etc etc
Hope this helps.

My Background:
Chemical Engineer working as Manager- Production in Bayer for 4.6 yrs( would complete 5 yrs by July, 2012). Good pay package.
Want to make a shift from operations to energy, consulting.
I want to do MBA this yr itself, gave CAT but scored very bad so cannot apply to GLIM.So i am currently eyeing the following institutes: KJ Somaiya, Alliance, Welingkar, Adani Institute, IMT
I have 2 queries;
i) with my profile which institute will be most suitable for me
ii) If one was to rate the institutes mentioned by me, what would be the rating
iii) will it be possible for me to make a career shift
iv) do institutes consider a shortage of 1-2 months in 5 yrs work experience.
Any help will be highly appreciated.
