The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has been ordered by the Delhi High Court on Tuesday, May 21 to keep the “moderation policy” ongoing for the 2017-18 academic year. The two judges bench headed by acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal with Justice Pratibha Singh heard both respondents and petitioners. The bench has ordered CBSE to ‘follow the declared policy of 2016 including the moderation policy’.
Over 18 lakh class XII and class X students are eagerly waiting for their results to be announced. The results were scheduled to be declared today on May 24, 2017 but it seems unlikely to happen.
PaGaLGuY got in touch with CBSE officials only to know that a meeting is ongoing regarding the moderation policy with HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar. “The meeting is presently ongoing and we are not sure about the outcome as off yet. The meeting’s decision regarding class XII and X board results will be conveyed soon on the official website,” said an official from CBSE.
While referring to the already existing moderation policy of CBSE, followed in 2016, the two judges bench said that it has not informed the students about the removal of it even during the evaluation process. The judges also pointed out that sudden removal of the policy will affect the academic prospects of students who have plans that needs timely publication of class XII result. The order stated that, “Denial of moderation may have drastic consequences for the admission offers which large number of Class XII students have taken CBSE courses and examination would suffer.”
It was further conveyed that CBSE can do away with the moderation policy in the 2018-19 academic year with proper information conveyed to students beforehand.
