Formed up of seven constituent colleges, the university was initially called the University of Rajputana and was christened with its current name in the year 1956.

The university also offers a full-time three-year-long PhD course in specializations like Drawing and Painting, Philosophy, Zoology, Anthropology, Physics, Mathematics, English, Economics, Psychology, Botany and Law for a fee of INR 1,17,250.
Admission Process
All the applicants willing to take Rajasthan University admission are being admitted to the university courses based on the marks scored in their qualifying degree, entrance examination or admission tests (written and practical). Candidates need to score above a specified mark in these exams to get admitted to a particular course or discipline.
The entrance exams include ULET (University Law Entrance Test), RULET (Rajasthan University Law Entrance Test), URATPG (University of Rajasthan Post Graduate Admission Test), PIMMAT (R A Poddar Institute of Management-Management Aptitude Test), Uniraj MPAT (MPhil and PhD Admission Test) etc. Students can download their Rajasthan university admit card from the official page.
- For the LLB course, admission is based on the marks obtained in ULET conducted by the university.
- Admission to the five-Year Integrated BA + LLB programme is based on the performance in RULET.
- For the LL.M, M.Lib.I.Sc, MCA and M.Sc courses, admission is based on the marks scored in the URATPG exam.
- For the Pre B.P.Ed and M.P.Ed courses, admission is based on the performance in Pre-B.P.Ed and Pre-M.P.Ed Entrance Exams.
- For the MBA programme, admission is based on the performance in PIMMAT.
- For the PhD and M.Phil admissions, candidates need to qualify in the Uniraj MPAT exam.
- The university also conducts a Pre-M.Ed (PMET) and a Pre-B.Ed-M.Ed (PBMET) entrance exam.
Placements
Rajasthan University has a Placement Cell which is responsible for improving the recruitment facilities of the students. Its sole purpose is to make the students' placement ready and it does so by conducting month-long training events and programmes that focus especially on career counselling and personality development. Results and Cut-off
Rajasthan university result and cut-off list for its several courses and degrees are declared, once the results of their respective entrance examinations are calculated. The candidates need to obtain a score which is equal to or more than the cut-off mark specified by the university to get admitted to their desired courses.
For example, LLB aspirants need to clear the ULET Cut Off, PhD candidates need to clear the Uniraj MPAT cut-offs, M.Sc candidates need to clear the URATPG cut-offs and MBA students get admitted on clearing the PIMMAT cut-offs. Campus Facilities
Rajasthan University has a Library which keeps a rich collection of over five lakh books and bound periodicals along with subscriptions to around 60 current journals and popular magazines. Under the e-Shodh Sindhu Consortium, students also have access to around 10,500 e-Journals. The university provides hostel or lodging provisions for both boys and girls.
There are a total of 19 Hostels, out of which 14 are situated in the main Campus while the rest are in the constituent colleges. Each hostel organises a Youth Festival every year alongside other inter-hostel cultural fests. The university has facilities for major indoor and outdoor games, a Swimming Pool, yoga centre and a fully developed indoor stadium.
