Among the three category of courses offered by the institute — general management programme, executive fellowships and satellite-based courses — the satellite-based live classroom programmes will be available for students abroad.
So far, the satellite-programmes cover general management, human resource and supply-chain management certificate courses. “The programmes are available to students in 31 Indian cities. With technical collaboration from Hughes Escorts Communications Limited, we will be beaming the satellite-based classroom programmes abroad,” Raj said.
The certificate course, targeted at those professionals who can attend classes at the weekends, requires students to take tests in writing, rather than completing the course on the net.
Raj said the institute is also working on introducing newer courses in the upcoming sessions. On the wings is a course on disaster management. Managerial efficiency in tackling both man-made and natural disasters will be the focus in the new course. The course will give adequate knowhow on how managers should tackle financial disasters such as securing e-data.
XLRI will be introducing a course on entrepreneur development. The Social Entrepreneur Trust (SET), an XLRI students’ group, that will meet on November 18, will be offering its suggestions for the planned course.
“Our students find no problem in getting placed nationally. What we now aspire for is the international market,” said Raj. The institute’s enthusiasm has already found an answer. N Sunil Kumar, an XLRI student, has recently been offered placement as the chief executive officer of the ABN Foundation. Kumar is XLRI’s first student to be taken in as a CEO.
