With XLRI’s Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in the Profession, what would you like to establish for XIME as the Vice Chairman and President?

I would like to institute a
similar award for Entrepreneurs of the Southern Region who have done extremely
well in their business alongside with their concern for and contribution to
social causes.

Being educated at XLRI and Harvard Business
School, where do you feel the Indian Management Institutes stand globally?

In the global context, we could
claim that we have at least 20 Management Institutes of global standard. 30
more could easily get into the league with some support and encouragement from
AICTE/ HRD Ministry. Further, I will plead for a more liberalized regulatory
regime for our management institutes to enable them to perform better. Less control
and more facilitation should be the approach of the regulators.

What are the top 5 factors you would look into a
student when you are recruiting him/her for an MBA program?

1.
Attitude,
Outlook, Commitment

2.
Learnability
and creative thinking ability

3.
Communication
skills

4.
Ability
to work in teams

5.
Current
Affairs Awareness

How does a mandatory 3 weeks internship with
NGOs help in the overall development of a student?

1.
Students
are sensitized towards social issues.

2.
They
will get an early orientation towards the CSR function of companies.

3.
They
get a real life opportunity to apply managerial learning to the social sector.
Many of them return with considerable satisfaction of having contributed in
their own small way to the further development of the NGO.

4.
Since
this is the first instance for most students to interact with an NGO, there is
tremendous learning for them from this 21 day internship.
