Around 1.17 lakh students from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh appeared for the JEE Mains held on Sunday. Most of the students found the difficulty level of the exam paper to be moderate but, unfortunately, they could not attempt all the questions as they ran out of time. This was because they were not allowed to carry their wrist watches inside the examination halls and the halls where they wrote the exam had no clock.
Rajavardhan Reddy was one among those who had to face this issue. “Before entering the centre, we asked the management if there were clocks in the examination halls. But we found out that there were none. The school authorities assured us that they will be installed during the exam. However, we had to write our exam without any clocks,” said Reddy, who wrote his exam at the Army Public School, Golconda.
Other students shared similar sentiments, but there was little that they could do. “I wanted to complain to someone at the centre. However, I couldn’t find anyone apart from the peon,” said N Chakradhar, an aspirant, who appeared for JEE Mains at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kanchanbagh.
Ananda Raman, the director of FIITJEE, was visibly upset at the pathetic state of affairs at the examination centres in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. “It’s unfortunate that so many bright students couldn’t complete their paper as they were not aware of time. Aspirants will have to pay the price for the managements’ failure to provide basic amenities,” he said.
As far as the paper content was concerned, a majority of aspirants from the two Telugu speaking states complained that it was a tad lengthier than what they had expected. “The paper was lengthy. Several questions in the Chemistry and Physics section were a little tricky. Questions which shouldn’t have taken more than two minutes took nearly double the time,” said Keshav Kotapally, an aspirant.
Aspirants in the two states found Physics and Chemistry sections to be theoretical in nature. “The paper was mostly based on basics. Several questions were time-consuming,” said an aspirant.
