What Will Get Your Article Recommended

Those who have written or plan to write for Channels, a Hearty Welcome!

You’ve probably read all the other Help articles and know by now that when you write, your article first gets into the Latest bunch. That’s kind of fine but if you want many more people to read you and attract comments and discussions, your goal should be to get into the Recommended list.

The right to ‘recommend’ currently rests with PaGaLGuY’s in-house editorial team and it is really not so difficult to get the ‘R’ touch to your article. Here are some guidelines.

* Write a story if possible, could be an experience, a personal event or incident, your view on a latest/recent/or even older happening. A reaction to a news development also works fine. A review works well too.

* Do not lift articles from elsewhere or plagiarise unless you clearly explain why you are doing it. Because, otherwise your article will simply get off Channels.

* You can republish what you have published elsewhere but make sure you mention the source at the end of the article. If good, it will definitely be recommended.

* Pay a little attention to grammar and punctuation – a good thing to learn actually if it does not come naturally.

* Recommended articles are often those which are liked by a cross section of readers, not just from your clique of friends or people from your college or workplace.

* Long articles with glitzy pictures or arresting headlines are not always the ones that will get recommended. You have to have ‘good’ content, even if you say what you have to say in a 100 words.

* If you are going to blatantly publicise someone or something which does not deserve the attention and is basically an advertisement, it will not be recommended.

* Articles straight from the heart, written for others and simply written, always work.

*Also if you have something really good to say, write under your own name, not under the name of your institute or company or wherever else you work. Everybody likes to read personal accounts from ‘real’ people.
