Having edited most of the articles that have been published and recommended (or unrecommended) in Channels, this is broadly why I think some of them have more likes, less likes, no likes, more comments, few comments and no comments. Try these simple steps below and check whether the feedback to your article is any different.
*If English is not your forte, be simple in your writing. Do not attempt to write poetry.
*Realistic writing is not something everyone can do. Write about real things without too much effort – if that happens, then you are on the right track.
*Do not write only to be known as a good writer or for your article to be liked or recommended. If that is your only motive, you will lose the plot.
*Try not to ‘sermonise’ or provide free advice because that comes easiest to you. There are too many ‘I’m OK, You’re OK books in the market to read some more. However, if you have a personal experience that has taught you something and you would like to share it, go right ahead.
*Try to be different in your writing. Do not copy a style, or words, phrases – readers notice such things.
*Do not pick up from the Internet and work around words to make your writing sound intelligent. It is okay if ideas do not come easily to you, they will eventually.
*Be observant. Sometimes, the best articles are about simple situations, and people.
*Often a picture says a thousand words. If you have good pictures, replace your words with them, they work better.
*Experiences have to be really ‘different’ to be read. If not, you have to be a real good writer to make a ‘normal’ experience read well.
*When reviewing a book, movie, television serial, put in efforts to be different. If you are only going to narrate what others have read and heard, no one will want to read you.
*Stop comparing yourself as a writer to others on the site. If you at all want to compare, look at the writing closely and also the feedback (comments), may be you will find some learning in it.
*The best way to pick up some comments is by writing on the something newsy or ‘making news’ in your city, country, world. It is nice to debate on something fresh.
*Write if you have an opinion, do not fake an opinion, it will show.
*Read, read, read. Novels, magazines, newspapers. It will open up your mind to different ideas, different writing and different authors.
