‘I’m really gonna miss this place
I’m gonna miss my college days…’
These beautiful lines from Gaurav Dagaonkar’s College Days sum up the feelings of lakhs of engineering students who will be graduating this year. The final exams are over and with that, the semester has come to an end as well. The good old college days are over. But unlike previous years, students aren’t excited to pack their bags and leave for summer break. They are sad and nostalgic.
Over the last few days, fourth-year students have flooded social media sites with posts, status and images, all describing how much they will miss their college days.
“I remember waiting for vacations so that I could return to my hometown and family. Till almost the end of the second year, I hated everything about hostel life. The saving graces were my roomies and the games we played till wee hours in the morning. But the thought of leaving it all is weird,” said Anshul Goel of IIT Roorkee.
PaGaLGuY spoke to a couple of other engineering students across the tech institutes across the country. Each one had something special to talk about their college life; a slice of that moment that will stay on forever in the form of fond memories. We asked the fourth-year students what they’ll miss the most. No point for guessing this one, though. The unanimous answer was “free WiFi!”. Apart from this, students added that they would miss their friends, favourite hang-out spots, all night game-a-thons and lots more.
Reminiscing about her four years spent in the college, Ankita Desai fondly listed out all that she will miss after leaving college. “College fests, club activities, studying all through the night before the exams, late night Maggi feasts in the hostel, monkey in the campus and what all and what not.” She also added that the struggle before the exams was not just about cramming the syllabus, but in sourcing the notes.
Some like Aman Bhatt are yet to come to terms with the fact that the party is finally over. “I can’t believe how these four years passed. I wish we never grew up.”
