Xavier Institute of
Management and Entrepreneurship (XIME), Bangalore organized a walkathon on 22nd of
November, 2015. It saw an enthusiastic group of over 300 people walking through
Electronic City at 8 in the morning to support the cause of the mentally
challenged.
XSEED, the social service initiative of XIME took the lead in
executing this event. XSEED plans to support the mentally challenged for the
next few years. The walkathon was flagged off by Prof J Philip, President XIME
and Former Director IIM B.
The money that XSEED collected through sponsors and ticket
selling was given to Swanthana, an NGO taking care of mentally challenged
girls. Mr. Jacob Chako, the chief
developer and volunteer of Swanthana, accepted the Rs.1.5 lakh cheque.
Enthusiasts from nearby companies turned up to walk for the
cause. Narendra Lath from TCS said “I liked the atmosphere. The young and
energetic crowd ensured we kept going.” The walkathon winners-Prashant Singh Wadai
and Shalitha Hegde were presented with the prize money of Rs. 5000 each.
The chief guest for the event was Mr. Sebi Chako,
CHRO from Strides Shasun Ltd. XIME alumni association president Ms. Padma
Srinivas inspired the gathering to take up running and walking as a healthy
hobby. The event was sponsored by Himayala Herbals and Flextronics Technology.
