The expected cut-off for 2018 mains:

UPSC exam General OBC SC ST PH1 PH2 PH3

The expected cut-off for the exam has been considerably reduced. The cut-off depends on the vacancies in a category or a community the candidate is from. The general vacancies are always filled on merit. There is no reservation for general category candidates. UPSC prepares the separate rank list for all the categories.

The factors that affect the cut-off: the total number of vacancies, level of difficulty of the paper, the total number of candidates participating in each stage, reservation norms, marking scheme, and last year cut-off trends.

To be noted: The cut-off for 2018 mains exam will be declared only after the final round in the UPSC exam.

The candidates who are qualified in the main exam will be called for the next round i.e interview/ personality test. The candidates who qualify in the mains have to produce the original certificates in support of their educational qualification, pertaining to age, community and other documents at the time of personality test.

The personality test is likely to commence on 4th February 2019. The personality test will be held in UPSC office, New Delhi. The e-summon letter of the personality test of the candidates called for the interview can be downloaded from the official website from 8th January 2019. The candidates if not able to download the e-summon letter they have to immediately contact the commission office through the letter or by e-mail.

In the personal interview, the interviewer will analyze the candidate’s confidence first. The look, education, accent of speech doesn’t matter to them. They will only analyze the strength and confidence in the candidates.  The tenor of the interview will be only of conversation. They see if the person has the ability to reason, to think critically, analytically, clarity in the thought and expression, positiveness of approach, awareness in the socioeconomic issues etc.

The final result will be announced after the personal interview round. It is expected to be announced March or April 2019.
