Close on the heels of the Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) 2013 evaluation fiasco, another one seems to be brewing right here, in the heart of Mumbai. Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) applicants claim that they are at the receving end of some not-so-tight evalutation. According to a good, sizeable number of applicants, marks are a cool 6-8 notches lower than expectations, which for some, means, no call from TISS this year.
In protest, some 408 plus TISS aspirants have signed an online petition asking for a re-evaluation of the paper. Incidentally, this is the first year that TISS conducted an online entrance exam.
One such candidate, Prashant Gopalia told PaGaLGuY that those protesting have matched their scores with websites and other sources, and hence developed the feeling that evaluation has been a little flawed this year. “We are only humbly requesting TISS officials to make available the answer keys on the TISS website so that we know our mistakes,” urged an affected candidate.
Another aspirant said that he had waited for an entire year to get into TISS, having taken the exam last year as well. But this year too his chances look bleak. “The 8 marks would have made a difference to my scores,” he said.
Candidates also remarked that the first online version of the exam did not go too well. “The interface was slow and did not work too smoothly. We thought keeping all this in mind, there would be some reconsideration on re-evaluation or they should release keys so that aspirants can be satisfied,” added the same candidate.
Those familiar with the TISS paper said that 8 marks will not make much of a difference in HRM but in the others, may be.
Ms Lina Kashyap Deputy Director with TISS while speaking to this website was certain that there were no errors in evaluation. “Scores have been electronically generated. Besides, it was an objective paper so there is no wrong doing from the institute’s end. The protest is not valid.”
Ms Kashyap also added that there will be no change in admission criteria or seat numbers as seats are limited.
In the course of yesterday and today, some candidates had posted on our site that TISS authorities were planning to convene a meeting this morning (Thursday, February 7) to resolve this issue, but Ms Kashyap said that the news was false.
