NIIT University brings for all MBA aspirants, a two-year exhaustive program that aims to help aspiring professionals build meaningful connections to the real world of business and become successful leaders of the future.
It offers its students the Mentorship Program wherein every MBA student at NU is guided by an industry mentor, a reputed corporate leader of eminence. The program is built upon the premise that experiential inputs, macro-level insights and networking opportunities key drivers necessary for the overall skill development of a graduating MBA student are best provided by senior corporate practitioners, and that too only in informal and interactive settings.
The program sums up together the learning from a number of interactive group sessions between the mentor and his designated students (each group having at most 4 students) where a dialogue takes place. Because of constant interactions, the mentor is completely aware and updated about the students background, performance and aspirations. These interactive sessions provide exceptional opportunities for students to receive specific customized guidance from senior corporate leaders having relevant experience, insights and network.
The Mentorship Program also benefits its students by the concept of an Industry Coach a senior corporate executive who typically guides two students and is freely accessible to the students when they seek advice and guidance on day-to-day issues.
Each student regularly receives the corporate practitioners perspective from two senior corporate leaders, the mentor and the coach, and can benefit from their experience, world-view and contacts. In addition to the Mentorship Program, the NIIT Universitys MBA program offers the International Immersion Program as an Elective. This component of the program provides an exposure to Management Education and local industry in an emerging economy, typically China.
The 4-week trip includes one week of immersion in the ongoing classes and activities (including evaluation) of a reputed business school, followed by a guided tour of the local industry for the remaining three weeks. These first-hand experiences enable students to contrast education and industrial practices in another emerging economy in comparison with India, and enhance their global perspective, international exposure and overall self-confidence and personality development. This elective component can be taken only after Term 3, and before the start of internship. The component requires additional payments to cover costs of the international exposure.
Smaller mini-immersion programs of 2-week durations are also being planned, covering other economic and social environments such as the emerging economies of Africa, cultural environment in South-East Asia, and industry tours in developed economies. The mini-immersion programs have to be integrated into individual student time-tables, case-by-case. Academic credit under the Elective category is awarded on the basis of student performance in linked assignments, reports and viva, and is guided by special regulations.
Other Highlights: The program consists of six terms of 12 weeks each, equally spread over two years, and a 10-week Summer Term at the end of first year. The program consists of a minimum of 36 courses of which 27 are compulsory and 9 are Electives to be chosen by the student, and 4 projects (including an internship during Summer Term). The total academic weightage of the program is a minimum of 120 credits. Specialisation is required in one core Concentration Area, and at least 4 Electives must be chosen from that area. Concentration
Areas currently planned are Strategy & Leadership, Marketing, Finance, Operations Management, Human Resources and Information Systems. In addition, students are permitted to undertake a maximum of 4 Free Electives beyond the stipulated 9, chosen from any area within NIIT University (subject to course prerequisites being satisfied). The intent of this elective category is to encourage students to participate academically in the unique opportunity that a Management program located in a holistic multi-disciplinary University presents students could use these electives to enhance their understanding of the other technology-based disciplines at NU, or to further their basic graduation discipline, or to take up the liberal arts, or for any other purpose.
