The kid had nobody to talk except his friend. Nobody cared what he was doing and how he was feeling except the resident of that old mansion. The man would give the boy food to eat, play with him, listen to his childish stories about how hard he used to try everyday to impress the girl and how he failed everytime. His friend would listen all that patiently.
“Can I live here?” asked the boy one day.
“I wish you could but you can’t” , replied his friend.
Kid: “Why? I have nobody in the village. Nobody talks to me. Everybody ignores me. There is nobody who cares about me. I feel very lonely. The girl doesn’t even look towards me. I feel very bad.”
Magician: “I understand, but I can’t allow you to stay here at night.”
Kid: “But why, I won’t disturb you. I will sleep in a corner”
Magician: “There are somethings beyond your understanding kid. There is a reason why nobody comes to this mansion.”
Suddenly, the boy’s gaze went to the room which always remained locked.
“What’s in that room?” asked the boy.
“My greatest magic, to be unfolded at the right time” ,replied the magician.
Kid: “Sounds interesting, tell me more about it please”.
Magician: “No. Remember, the greatest trick of a magician is to hide his secret from his audience”.
The kid felt bad but didn’t persuade him further. He knew his friend carried an aura of enigma around him.
“Are you a ghost?” asked the kid.
“What makes you think so?”, the magician asked nervously.
Kid: “Everybody at the village believes that this house is haunted”
Magician: “And what do you believe ?”
Kid: “I believe you are not a ghost, and even if you are, a good ghost indeed. They say a soul weighs 21 grams. But you don’t seem to weigh so little”
The magician laughed at the wittiness of his little friend, and so did the kid. Suddenly, something struck him and he asked the kid to leave the house immediately.
“Why?” asked the kid
“I don’t need to explain. Come at night. I wish to show you something. Now leave”, replied the magician haphazardly.
The kid obliged without asking anything.
