The petitions filed by disgruntled CAT 2013 candidates in various courts across the country have made little progress. In most of the cases, the IIMs have either failed to respond or been absent for the hearings. This has only attracted fresh ‘hearing’ dates.
The case at IIM Indore came up last week but not all the IIMs responded to the earlier call of providing the raw scores and process. Same with the case at Calcutta High Court which was listed on the board today.
According to the petitioners, IIMs are possibly trying to seek time and prolong the cases for their own benefit. It may be noted that it was the petitioners who offered to send notices to all the IIMs on behalf of the court. “However, despite our efforts, representatives of these IIMs have not appearing in the courts forcing the judges to give new dates,” said one petitioner.
A peculiar problem that petitioners have been facing is the fact that there are all of 13 IIMs. Notices have been sent to all of them and even if two of them do not respond, it become difficult to proceed.
PaGaLGuY spoke to an IIM representative who said he was more than ready with his response and his lawyer has been present for the hearings.
A rumour making the rounds is that the IIMs are bidding time only to approach the Supreme Court directly to be able squash all the petitions. However, the IIM representative who we spoke to refuse to comment on this point.
