Companies participating in placements represented various sectors such as banking, consultancy, technology, FMCG, automotive, health care and pharmaceuticals, telecom, media, entertainment, advertising, energy, and travel and tourism. Start-ups and PSUs also offered job profiles in the summer placements held at Sydenham.
The highest number of job profiles accepted was from the marketing sector with 44 percent of students choosing to take up marketing roles in summer projects. About 37 percent of the batch of 2010 opted to accept finance job profiles. Operations and HR job profiles constituted seven percent and five percent of offers accepted respectively. Four percent of the students took up General Management profiles while three percent of the batch accepted Consulting roles.
The recruiting companies provided job profiles across verticals such as treasury, equity research, market advisory, investment banking, corporate consulting, branding, market research, business
development and others.
Companies participating in the process included Voltas, ICICI Bank, Novartis, Deloitte Consulting, KPMG, HPCL, BPCL, UBS, Deutsche Investor Services Private Ltd. (DISPL), Barclays Bank, Shipping Corporation of India (SCI), Colgate Palmolive, Wockhardt, L&T;, HDFC, Suzlon Energy, JWT, Sanofi Aventis, Parle Agro, Amul, RBI, Darashaw Capital, Bank of Baroda (BOB), BOB Capital etc.
Sydenham also attracted participation for the first time from firms and startups, some of which chose to recruit only from the institute, such as HT Media, Viacom 18, Skoda Auto, Pagalguy.com, UTV, IDC India, Essel Group, Estee Lauder, Omnitech Solutions, Collins Stewart Inga, HCC, India Forex, Verge Consulting, Enarr Capital, India Games, KJMC Capital, Perfect Relations, Airtel Tele Media, K.R Choksey Securities, iFAST Financial Services and Government of Maharastra.
Finance
Banks such as ICICI Bank, Bank of Baroda, HDFC Bank recruited from the institute. Deutsche Investor Services Private Limited (DISPL), the investor services arm of Deutsche Bank offered profiles in Project Finances. RBI offered summer projects to two students. Investment banking firms such as Barclays Bank, Darashaw Capital, Bank of Baroda (BOB) Capital, KJMC Capital also offered job profiles. Swiss banking firm UBS also participated in the summer placements process. India Forex, a Forex Market Advisory firm made four job offers.
Summer placements also witnessed participation from PSU banks including Bank of India, Union Bank of India, Punjab National Bank with them offering projects in Corporate Finance and Project Finances. Other major recruiters were Motilal Oswal Securities, Reliance Mutual Fund, Normans Martin, Birla Sun Life AMC, Reliance General Life Insurance, Kotak Commodity Services, ICICI Prudential AMC., DHFL, HDFC Standard Life, K.R.Choksey Securities, Brics Securities and investment consultancy firm Way2Wealth Brokers.
Most of the finance companies offered diverse profiles such as Corporate Banking, Project Finance, Treasury, Risk Management, etc.
Consulting
Consulting profiles included Strategic Consulting, Government and Infrastructure Advisory, Auto Finance Consulting and Management consulting. US based Verge Consulting, Formative Consulting and Millicent Consulting were prominent recruiters. Global consulting majors Deloitte Consulting (Strategy & Operations) and KPMG (HR) also participated in the process. UK based research firm Decidyn offered summer internship and recruited for a Data Analytics project.
Manufacturing
Companies such as Voltas (in Corporate Planning division), Godrej & Boyce Ltd, Skoda Auto, HCC, L&T; (heavy engineering), Shipping Corporation of India (SCI), Suzlon Energy, Essel Group, Shrijee Group, Tata Chemicals, VSNL , HPCL, and BPCL represented the manufacturing sector in summer placements at Sydenham.
FMCG
One student secured an offer from Colgate Palmolive. Amul and Parle Agro recruited in large numbers for various profiles across SCM, Budgetary Control, Market Research, Sales and Marketing. Estee lauder, a prominent cosmetics firm offered a project in Corporate Finance.
Media, Entertainment and Advertising
Most of the recruiters in this vertical were first time recruiters at Sydenham. These firms included HT Media, Viacom 18, UTV, Pagalguy.com and Times Group. PR Firm Perfect Relations and Research firm IDC India also recruited for first time. JWT, OMD Media and O2 Advertising were the advertising firms to have participated in summer placements.
Other sectors
The Pharmaceutical Sector saw representation from Novartis, Wockhardt, Sanofi Aventis and Abbott India.
IT and ITES
Technology companies included Patni Computers, TCS, Aptech Ltd, OmniTech, Venture Infotech, iWEB Technologies, Trimax IT Infrastructure, F5 IT Consultancy, Quick Heal, SQTL, Online Gaming portal India Games and KPO Eclerx.
State Government of Maharashtra, under Joint Secretary of State for Higher Education, Mr JS
Saharia offered nine summer internships. The stipend offered was Rs 20,000 for the
two month period of tenure . The projects will be Live research projects covered under Department of Higher & Technical Education. These projects were been offered for the first time to management students and given exclusively to Sydenham students .
Winter Internships
Every year, in the month of December, Sydenham students engage in a month long project with corporates.
