Deshmukh, the first IMA Chair from India takes the helm for fiscal year 2025
The Institute of Management Accountants (IMA®) announced the appointment of Sunil Deshmukh, CMA, as the Chair of IMA’s Global Board of Directors for the fiscal year 2025 (July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2025). Deshmukh, hailing from India, marks a significant milestone as the first Chair from this region.
In his role, Deshmukh aims to enhance IMA’s long-term stability while expanding into new markets and implementing the organisation’s new vision. He will prioritise fostering strategic partnerships and collaborations within the B2B sector and providing mentorship to IMA’s Senior Leadership Team.
“I am honoured to assume the senior volunteer position at IMA, especially as the first individual from India to do so,” said Deshmukh. “I look forward to contributing to the realisation of IMA’s strategic goals and delivering our products and services to our members and business professionals during my tenure.”
Deshmukh currently serves as a leadership and executive coach and strategy consultant, advising both for-profit and nonprofit organisations on leadership development, business strategy, and executive coaching. With over three decades of experience, he has worked extensively in consumer markets across Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia, focusing on business strategy, operational management, and board-level governance.
Deshmukh holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce from Marathwada University in India, a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from Symbiosis Law College at Pune University in India, and a Master’s Degree in Commerce from Pune University. He is a Fellow Member (FCMA) of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICAI), a Fellow Member (FCS) of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), and a Fellow Member of the Institute of Directors (IOD) of India. Additionally, he is accredited as an ACC (Associate Certified Coach) with ICF USA and a Certified Executive Coach at Marshall Goldsmith Stakeholder Centered Coaching (MGSCC) USA. Deshmukh holds certifications in leadership from programs in the U.S., UK, and India, and he is a Certified Sustainability Professional (GCB-D) from Competent Boards.
A member of IMA since 2010, Deshmukh has served on the IMA Global Board since 2021 and earned his CMA® (Certified Management Accountant) credential in 2010.
