The Staff Selection Commission or SSC carries out the Stenographer examination for recruiting stenographers in Grade C and D. This skill test is followed by the procedure of document verification. Stenographers are generally excepted to transcribe speeches in short hand.
The Staff Selection Commission has released a short notice in relation to the stenographer exam 2019, today that is 14th December, 2019. According to this recent short notice, an official notification for SSC Steno 2019 will be released on 17th September. This notification is expected to provide further information about the examination and details about the vacancies.
The SSC Steno exam can be taken by candidates who have passed class 12 from a recognised school or college and are between the ages of 18-27 years. Tentatively, the applications are expected to open from 17th September and end by 15th October,2019. However, the dates will only be confirmed with the release of the subsequent official notifications.
Stenographer exam is generally on 200 marks spanning across 2 hours and is divided into three parts. The exam is fully online and computers based. The three parts are inclusive of three broad categories that the candidates are expected to prepare. These include –
- General Intelligence and Reasoning : 50 marks
- General Awareness : 50 marks
- English Comprehension and Language : 100 marks
Along with these skills the speed of writing and clarity will be checked through a dictation for 10 minutes in English and Hindi. The speed limit will be 100 w.p.m (word per minute) for Grade C stenographer and 80 w.p.m (word per minute) for Grade D Stenographer. This dictation, collectively with the marks obtained in online test, will determine a candidate’s qualification.
Once the applications are open, the interested candidates can apply for the exam through the official website. The procedure of application will also be available with the official notifications. Interested candidates should keep a close check on the official website of SSC Steno for keeping themselves updated. The fees for the application is generally Rs 100.
The application entails the procedure of filling in the details and obtaining a registration ID, log in with the registration ID received, uploading the photograph and signature according to the prescribed instructions and submitting the form. The final step will be to complete the payment of the application fees.
The merit list will for SSC Steno is decided upon the release of the final results. The cut off is based on the overall performance and final results. Those who will qualify are selected to be recommended by the Staff Selection Commission for being recruited into the post of stenographers.
