SSC-CGL 2018: Exam Information
Staff Selection Commission (SSC) will soon be conducting the Combined Graduate Level (SSC-CGL) Examination for selecting suitable candidates to fill up Group “B” and Group “C” posts in various Ministries/ Dept./Org. in the Government of India. The SSC CGL 2018 Exam will be conducted in four stages: Tier-1 to Tier-4 stage exam.

Vacancies for SSC-CGL 2018
The Vacancy for SSC CGL 2018 will be released soon.
For the 2016 SSC-CGL Exam the number of vacancies was increased to 9000. As per last years’ notification released by SSC, a total of 8089 vacancies were to be filled by SSC CGL 2017 exam. These vacancies have been created in the department of Income Tax, Excise and Custom.
Eligibility for SSC-CGL
I] Nationality/ Citizenship
A candidate must be either
- An Indian citizen OR
- Nepalese/Bhutanese subject OR
- A refugee from Tibetan who came to India before the 1st January, 1962 OR
- A person of Indian origin who migrated from Burma, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam
II] Age
The Staff Selection Commission sets age eligibility differently for every post. The detailed age cutoff is as mentioned in the notification elaborately
Age limit will be reckoned as on 1st August, 2018 based on the following specifications:
(i) For Post with age limit 20-27 years | Candidate must have been born between 2nd August 1991 and 1st August 1998 |
(ii) For Post with age limit 18-27 years | Candidate must have been born between 2nd August 1991 and 1st August 2000 |
(iii) For Post with age limit 20-30 years | Candidate must have been born between 2nd August 1988 and 1st August 1998 |
(iv) For Post with age limit 18-30 years | Candidate must have been born between 2nd August 1988 and 1st August 2000 |
(v) For Post with age limit 18-32 years | Candidate must have been born between 2nd August 1986 and 1st August 2000 |
III] Educational Qualifications

Assistant Audit Officer/ Assistant Accounts Officer | (a) Essential Qualifications: Graduate (Bachelors) from a GoI recognized university
(b) Desirable Qualifications:
Direct recruits need to qualify the “Subordinate Audit Service Examination” for their regular appointment to posts of Assistant Audit Officer/ Assistant Accounts Officer during the probationary period. |
Junior Statistical Officer | Graduation in any subject from a recognised University with minimum 60% marks in Mathematics at Std. 12 level OR
Bachelor’s in any subject with Statistics as one of the degree subjects. |
All other Posts | Bachelor’s Degree from a recognised University or any such equivalent qualification |
The candidates who are appearing in the final year of graduation can apply, however they must possess the qualification as mentioned above on or before 1st August 2018. |
For the following posts, Computer Proficiency Test has also been prescribed as an Essential Qualification:
- Assistant Section Officer (CSS)
- Assistant Section Officer (MEA)
- Assistant in Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) under M/o Corporate Affairs
- Assistant (GSI) in M/o Mines
SSC CGL Application 2018
The SSC CGL Applications for 2018 were closed on 5th June 2018.
How to Apply for SSC CGL Exam?
- Applicant must first log on to the official website i.e. ssc.nic.in
- Before applying carefully check eligibility norms to ensure you are eligible for the post being applied to.
- Next step is to “register as a new user” at the website. This can be done using a valid email ID and phone number.
- OTP to validate the required ID will be sent to the phone number entered.
- Candidate can then pay the application fee online or through an SBI Challan.
- The Challan can be generated online after the SSC CGL Application Form.
- Make sure to keep scanned copies of a recent passport size photo, candidate signature and thumb impression to upload during the application.
- Once you have done basic registration, you will be directed to Application Form.
- Carefully fill details into the form and submit.
- After clicking the Submit button, you will not be able to make any changes later.
- Take a print out of the filled out application form for future reference.

Scheme of Tier-IV Examination
Computer Proficiency Test/ Skill Test (wherever applicable)/ Document Verification will also be conducted as per the provisions of the notice of examination.
A] Data Entry Skill Test (DEST): For the post of Tax Assistants (Central Excise & Income Tax)
> “Data Entry Speed Test” Skill Test will be conducted on a passage of about 2000 (two thousand) key depressions for a duration of 15 mins.
> This test will be of qualifying nature.
> Computers for the test will be provided by the Commission at the Centre/ venue as notified.
> The Skill Test will be held at the Commission’s Regional/ Sub-Regional Offices or at other Centres as may be decided by the commission.
B] Computer Proficiency Test (CPT): For the posts of Assistant Section Officer of CSS, Assistant Section Officer (MEA), Assistant in Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs and Assistant (GSI) in the Ministry of Mine
> The Commission will hold Computer Proficiency Test (CPT), comprising of three modules:
i] Word Processing
ii] Spread Sheet
iii] Generation of Slides
> No exemption from CPT is allowed for any category of PwD candidates
> CPT will be of qualifying nature.
C] Document Verification (DV)
> All the candidates qualified for Document Verification are required to come for Document Verification.
> Those who fail to do so will not be considered for any post at the time of final selection.
> Candidates will have to submit copies of various documents like Matriculation Certificate, educational qualification, caste certificate, relevant document, if any relaxation is taken, etc. Candidates will be required to produce all documents in original for verification at the time of document verification.

SSC CGL – Mode of Selection
Qualification to Appear in Tier-II Examination
- Based on the marks scored in Tier-I Computer Based Examination, candidates will be shortlisted, category-wise, to appear in Tier-II Examination.
- The Commission shall have the discretion to fix minimum qualifying marks in each component of the Tier-I Examination.
- The Commission may fix separate cut-offs for Paper-III (i.e. for the post of JSO), PaperIV (i.e. for the posts of Assistant Audit Officer and Assistant Accounts Officer) and for Paper-I+Paper-II (all other posts).
Qualification to Appear in Tier-III Examination
- Based on the aggregate performance in Tier-I and Tier-II Examinations, candidates will be shortlisted to appear in Tier-III (Descriptive Paper).
- The Commission may fix minimum qualifying marks in each Paper of Tier-II. 1
Qualification to Appear in Tier-IV Process
- The candidates who score minimum qualifying marks, as fixed by the Commission, in Tier-III Examination will be eligible to appear in Skill Tests and Document Verification.
- Based on the aggregate performance in Tier-I, Tier-II and Tier-III Examinations, candidates will be shortlisted to appear in Document Verification and Skill Tests i.e. Computer Proficiency Test (CPT) and Data Entry Skill Test (DEST).
- Skill Tests are qualifying in nature.
- If a candidate does not appear in Skill Test or fails to qualify the Skill Test, he/ she will not be eligible for the posts where CPT/ DEST are required.
Final Selection
- Merit list will be prepared on the basis of overall performance of candidates in Tier-I, Tier-II and Tier-III Examinations.
- Final selection of candidates, in each category, will be made on the basis of aggregate marks scored by them in Tier-I, Tier-II and Tier-III examinations and preference of posts exercised by them.

Steps to Download SSC CGL Admit Card
Step 1: Log onto the offical website – ssc.nic.in
Step 2: On the left, you will find an admit card tab – click on the same. This will open a list of regional websites.
Step 3: Select the required region.
Step 4: Use the E-Admit card option for SSC CGL Tier (I/II/III/IV)
Step 5: Some details may be required such as registration number and DoB.
Step 6: The downloadable SSC CGL Admit Card will be displayed. Download the same for future use.
Official SSC CGL Cut Off 2017 (Upto Tier-III)
The cutoffs expressed here are aggregate of Tier-I and Tier-II for qualification to Tier-III of the CGLE 2017. While estimating the expected cutoff for 2018, this can be used as a rough guide.
