Department of Finance at K. J. Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research (SIMSR), Mumbai organized SIFICO 2017– Annual Finance Conference on 13th and 14th January, 2017. The theme for this year was ‘International Finance and Capital Markets: Innovation, Growth and Governance’. Dignitaries – Dr. Prasanna Chandra (Director of Centre for Financial Management, Bengaluru), Mr. Sandip Ghose (Director, National Institute of Securities Market, Mumbai), Prof. (Dr.) Monica Khanna (Director, K J SIMSR) and Prof. (Dr.) Pankaj Trivedi (Area Chairperson, Finance and Convener, SIFICO) graced the inaugural ceremony. The conference was coordinated by Finstreet – Students Finance Committee of SIMSR.
Chief Guest of the Inauguration Ceremony Dr. Prasanna Chandra, in his address, shared the insights about various aspects of ‘Business Principles of Warren Buffet: Berkshire Hathaway Story’. He elaborated 8 Drivers of Value Creation Octagon i.e. Strategy and Business Model, Capital allocation, Performance management, Strategic finance management, Risk Management, Mergers and Acquisitions, Cost management and corporate governance w.r.t Berkshire Hathaway.
Chief Guest of honor Mr. Sandip Ghose, in his address, expressed views over financial literacy in India and guided students over key factors for success in the field of finance. He also mentioned some of the regulation activities undertaken by SEBI to control capital markets in India.
This was followed by a workshop undertaken by Prof. S.V.D. Nageswara Rao from Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management, IIT Bombay on Research Paper Presentation Techniques. Later on the same day and the following day, research papers were presented on the topics of “Corporate Finance and Banking”, “Micro and Macro Aspects of Finance” and “Capital Markets” chaired by Dr. S.S. Mohanty, Mr. Bireshwar Chatterjee, Dr.M.K.Jain and Prof. S.V.D. Nageswara Rao respectively. Students, professors and research scholars from our institute as well as all around India and outside came to present their research work. The “Best Paper Award” was bagged by Ms.Vijaylaxmi for the topic, “An intelligent approach for option pricing” followed by the certificate distribution and the successful closing address for the event.
