The Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Chandigarh has declared that the admission of medicos in the MD course for 2017 academic session would be made based on their NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) PG 2017 scores. Earlier, in the prospectus of NEET PG 2017, SGPGIMS was exempted from taking NEET scores into account for the admission of students. It was expected that the SGPGIMS would conduct its own entrance examination for filling up MD seats in the college. But now, the admission of the medicos will be made based on their ranks in the national-level common test conducted by NBE (National Board of Examination).
The National Board of Examination, which is responsible for carrying out NEET 2017, has notified on its website about the inclusion of SGPGIMS as participating institute in NEET PG. The notification will mean that the students taking up NEET will be eligible for counselling for SGPGIMS as well.
There are 22 seats in SGPGIMS across various specialties that are to be filled for the academic session 2017-18. The NEET PG examination is going to take place from December 5 to 13 at different test centres across the country.
