The commendable response that
RICS SBE received for its first placement session has left an impressive mark.
For the first time in India, RICS took the initiative to set up an institute –
RICS School of Built Environment — to cater to the growing need of
professional education in the field of real estate, construction and
infrastructure.
This initiative was ardently
backed by industry insiders as RICS has an incomparable global reputation. For
those who aren’t aware, RICS is the world’s leading
professional qualification and accrediting body since 146 years with more than
150,000 members worldwide. RICS also accredits over 600 courses in built
environment offered by the most reputed universities around the world. But this
is the first instance that RICS has established its own institution. One of the
reasons is that there’s a sea of growth opportunities in this sector in India.
India is one of the
fastest growing construction markets in the world. By 2020, India will be the
third largest construction market globally. After agriculture, it is the second
largest contributor to GDP. Still there is a huge dearth (80% shortage) of
professionals in built environment. This sum ups the immense need for
professional education in this sector. This also explains why industry insiders
welcomed RICS SBE with open arms and made commitments to hire its students.
A glance at the placement figures prove that
these commitments were deep found. 100% of the first MBA batch (2013-2015) got
placed. Out of this 85% of the batch was placed within first 15 days of the
placement period. Over 70 companies came on campus to recruit their future
employees. Leading companies like HDFC, KPMG, Tata Housing, DLF, Shapoorji
Pallonji, Mahindra Lifespaces Developers, JLL, CBRE, Cushman & Wakefield
were part of the on-campus placement session. Most of these companies were MNCs
and catered to the fields of international property consulting, construction,
contracting, real estate developers, banks and housing finance.
That’s not all, the average CTC
drawn was INR 6.7 lakhs p.a. as compared to the average salary of MBA graduates
(with 1-4 years’ experience) being INR
3.7 lakhs p.a.* As much as 40 students were placed with an annual salary
package of more than INR 6 lakhs.
The highest CTC offered was even
more remarkable – a whopping INR 13 lakhs. Mohammad Yunus, MBA REUI closed the
deal with Akshaya Housing as a Manager (Sales & Marketing) in INR 13 lakhs
p.a.
Even the job
profiles offered to students were diverse and as per students area of interest.
“I always wanted to
work as a MEP in one of the leading construction firms. With an MBA from RICS
SBE this was made possible. I will start my career from a threshold that is
achieved only after some years of practical work experience.” says Raghav
Parashar who got placed in Mechanical-Engineering-Plumbing at Leighton India
Contractors Pvt. Ltd.
“At RICS SBE, I
developed good finance and analytical skills that are required for valuations.
Thus I got a break with CBRE in their valuations & consulting division” shares
Aakash Garg.
Rohit
Dhiman says, “When I began my learning at RICS SBE, I dreamt of starting my
career with a renowned brand. Today that dream has been fulfilled. Tata Housing
is one of the most respected names in the field of real estate.” Our
students will join the workforce in profiles like valuations, advisory,
consulting, contracts, client finance, housing finance, project management,
systems & process, business developments, facility management, sales,
marketing and leasing.
Not
only this, internship experiences gained by students helped them hit the bull’s
eye during placements. “My internship at Afcons Infrastructure during my MBA,
helped me a great deal in the interview with Shapoorji Pallonji. Starting my career with them is a big
achievement.” says Afnan Hasan. “Right from the start, I was more into
numbers. So I did my internship in valuation in DTZ where I landed up with a
pre placement job offer.”
Shashank Vashishtha, MBA REUI, Advisory & Valuation, DTZ
Such exemplary performance
by the very first batch of any MBA institute is totally unheard of. This
reinforces the belief that RICS SBE produces graduates that are much sought
after by the industry. It also presents hope to students who are looking for a
promising career after MBA.
