2. How does being from an army background help you in your current role?
Being from the Corps of Signals of the Indian Army has not only given me rich experience in the management of communications, but has, instead, given me an even greater experience in the intricacies of management- both of men and materials. I had held not only signals related top appointments, but had also done important staff, instructional and command assignments, which have groomed me to be an able administrator and manager. Having served in all types of terrains and areas and in the most challenging situations, throughout my career, has made me confident of handling most complex and intricate situations and challenges. The types of challenges and situations I have to now deal with at the Campus as the Pro VC are miniscule in comparison, and to that extent, my rich army experience and training enables me to sail through with ease.

4. How important is understanding customer satisfaction for any management student? How will it help them in their professional lives?
Every management student must understand that revenue is at the crux of every business, and ‘Revenue’ is the one word that explains why customer satisfaction is important. Satisfied customers maximize revenues as they generally tend to spend more, refer to more customers and patronize businesses longer than customers who are dissatisfied. Customer loyalty cannot be even thought of without customer satisfaction. Also, customer satisfaction is the most important component of a positive brand image. Having satisfied customers requires a great deal of conscious efforts and investment from the businesses. It requires that the organizations deliver what they promise and preferably, exceed their expectations. It means that the organizations are attentive to their customers. It means that organizations are friendly and prompt in service. These cannot be achieved unless managers show high levels of accountability, problem solving skills, patience, and promptness. These are also the very qualities that stand a professional in good stead in his professional life.
5. You had introduced the IT culture in your last organization to enhance overall functionality. How does having a structured IT system in place affect management decisions?
Being from the Corps of Signals of the Indian Army, I have always been very enthusiastic about building the IT culture and literacy in whichever appointment or organization I served. IT is a very important tool for management decisions. In our present day scenario, the paper based communications and data management have been well replaced by IT enabled communications and Data Base Management (DBM). It has added speed and accuracy to communications, decision making and data management. At Amity, we insist on all our HOIs, HODs, faculty and staff to be IT literate and proficient with the computer systems. This has brought in greater efficiency and accuracy in our day to day functioning.
