IIT-Bombay has been in news since Srinivasa Bhogaraju, a PhD student of the institute went missing this October. The PhD student, who resided in hostel number 12 of IIT-B went for a trek at Sandshi hill in Karjat, alone.
Soon after, the college authorities launched a joint search operation with the police force to find the missing student. The police is now suspecting that he met some unknown people there who accompanied him on trek. (Read here) On December 11, 2015, locals found a dead body along with an IIT identity card bearing the name of Bhogaraju. However, the extent of decomposition made it difficult for the officials to establish identity of the deceased. The police officials soon informed his father about the discovery of a dead body with Bhogaraju’s belongings from Karjat hills.
“Bhogaraju’s sudden disappearance had caused deep trauma to his mother, leading to instability in her health”, revealed Bhogaraju’s close friend, a fourth year PhD student in IIT-B, who did not want to be named.
Meanwhile, the college authorities have sent an e-mail to their students defining the situation, and asking them to keep their nerves. They also appealed to the students to stand by Bhogaraju’s family in this moment of grief.
