Continued-
Zala’s brain ticked into a frenzy of thoughts that ranged from survival to Mallus’ protection. All of them however, seemed futile in the face of this threat. It decided to wait out and see what the Corporators had to say. Turned out, they didn’t get to hear much.
The Corporators banged down the front door and proceeded towards the pantry where Zala and Mallus sat at the dinner table waiting for whatever was in store for them. Clad in a black overcoat with the emblem of the Enedus flag emblazoned on the chest, they soon gained access to the pantry and now stood, in all their physical splendour- bodies pumped with the Holy Serum, incapable of any destruction- and boomed at the two to stand and face their death. They took out their laser guns and with a smirk, switched off the safety and having picked out either one of the two (as if this was not mass slaughter but a harmless video game being played out in the living room of innocent children), fired.
Moments before the guns let out the anti-dote to the serum that rushed in its veins, Zala decided to save Mallus’ life, for whatever it good that may do. It moved a step forward, effectively shielding Mallus. Soon, the fury of the guns rained on Zala and it closed its eyes.
Suddenly, Zala could hear someone shouting aloud . Warily, it opened its eyes and looked around and what it saw stunned it. The robes of the Corporators lay at a heap at its feet. With a look of confusion, Zala turned to find Mallus crying and screaming aloud ” Zala killed them! Zala killed them!” Mallus then rushed towards Zala and proceeded to tell it in a breathless voice what had just happened.
” Zala, the moment the guns opened fire, it seemed as if a shield had sprung up from within you. That shield was so powerful that not only did it protect the both of us, but it also served as a rebound. The lasers are no match against the Holy Serum that the Corporators source from the forests yes, but the shield seemed to increase their efficacy when it turned upon the Corporators and the result was what they deserved all along- annihilation!”
“But I don’t get it. Where are they?” Zala exclaimed and gingerly prodded the robes with its foot. Mallus said, ” The Corporators are not flesh and blood like us. They are sustained by the Holy Serum and when that’s removed, they evaporate into nothingness. They don’t die in the true sense of the word though. The molecules of their beings float and ultimately reach Enedus. There, they re-group but can no longer come back to our planet. It is very difficult to get them to leave, but I think you just did that Zala.”
Zala nodded in partial understanding and then asked- “Is the shield a protective mechanism in all our bodies? Do you have it too?” Mallus sighed wistfully and then answered, ” No, Zala, I don’t have it. Neither did my family. But I think I know why you have it. Zala, the prophecy that the Corporators propagate is false but what many of the Hunters don’t know is that a prophecy was made, the words of which were garbled up to suit the Corporations. The original prophecy presciently fore-told what Enedus had set out to do. What it also told was that among the legions of the Believers, there will spring up one who everyone would label as the ” Naive One” and this creature will then bring back our planet to sanity and prosperity. I think, you are the saviour Zala.”
