The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2017 is being conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee. It is being conducted for 23 branches of Engineering and Science, out of which 15 were successfully conducted on February 4, and 5, and remaining eight are scheduled on February 11, and 12. While candidates on PaGaLGuY.com were discussing about various questions asked in the exam, few of them found some incorrect questions in Mechanical Engineering, and decided to write to GATE 2017 authorities about it.
Amidst these discussions, there were comments if candidates would get a chance to challenge the answer keys this year. Like the organising institutes for GATE 2015, and 2016, IIT Kanpur, and the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore, provided an option to candidates if they wished to challenge the answer keys. To cater to the audience on PaGaLGuY.com, and various other discussion platforms, this correspondent looked in GATE 2017 information brochure, and searched for post-examination FAQs (frequently asked questions) on the official portal, if candidates can challenge the answer keys this year as well. Even the GATE helpline number didn’t have an answer. This correspondent decided to write an email on February 8, to GATE 2017 Chairman, Prof Govind Chakrapani, IIT Roorkee and Chairperson, Prof Kishore Chatterjee, IIT Bombay, informing them about candidates’ queries and asking whether candidates will get a chance to challenge the answer keys this year.
Prof Chakrapani replied, “The challenges of answer keys by candidates shall be notified after the remaining eight exams are completed.” He also appreciated this correspondent’s email, and added, “Thank you for alerting us before time.”
They released a notification on the official GATE portal today, February 9, which said, answer keys for GATE 2017 question papers shall be displayed on February 27, and challenges by candidates shall be accepted fromMarch 3 to 6.
