In the world of unending distractions and uncertain economic times, only a strong and responsible vision can assure a sustainable future for the country. It’s no secret that India’s economic growth is certainly dependent on energy demand. India’s true development and sustenance can be based on the availability and management of cost-effective and environmentally safe energy sources. Additionally, the Indian energy sector has been witnessing dynamic changes of its own in terms of regulatory reforms, inventive initiatives and industrial developments. In this scenario, only an investment in the human capital and exercising the best practices, productivity and innovation can evolve the sustainable power generation in the country.
Currently, the energy sector requires leaders, who seek clarity and are inspired to look beyond the uncertainty of today for a viable tomorrow. Instilling these capabilities into the energy leaders of tomorrow is taken up NTPC Ltd, India’s largest energy conglomerate dedicated to accelerating power development in India. In the year 2014, NTPC School of Business (NSB) started functioning under the aegis of NTPC Education and Research Society (NEARS). School started its first full-time residential PGDM (Executive) batch since the year 2015 under the approval of All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE). Although, the complete intake was comprised of only industry sponsored candidates with minimum of five years of experience, the industries like Tata Power, Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC), NHPC, BHEL and different joint ventures of NTPC are the few names which welcome this step of NTPC Ltd and readily send their selected candidates to NTPC School of Business for 15 months PGDM(Executive) continuously upto year 2018 i.e. for fourth running batch this year also.
Given the rapid changes in the energy sector, there is a pronounced need for augmentation in the managerial skills to take it towards unprecedented growth. NTPC, a Maharatna company of Government of India with an established presence in the power generation business bridges the gap by preparing the management candidates via top-notch managerial skills and inspiring them with a strong perspective. It instills a sense of leadership in each of the candidates to keep the energy sector ready for the future.
In order to nurture the next-generation leaders, furthermore, NTPC Ltd with its visionary leadership, approaches academic pioneer Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) in mid of year 2017.
And, the year 2017 had marked the Indian history with glorious industry-academia tie-up where NTPC recognizes the leadership skill requirement of the energy and power domain and IIMA realizes the academic processes and programs that place the Institute on the global education map and puts India in a position to drive development efficiently to grow as a nation.
In addition to its ongoing PGDM(Executive) program, in the year 2018, NSB floated a two-year full-time residential PGDM (Energy Management) program affiliated from AICTE, where, not only the course curriculum has been designed by IIMA, but also, majority of course content is also being delivered by profound IIMA faculty members.
This collaboration between the two premier institutes, functions to provide a platform that combines the fundamentals of management with domain/industry expertise. The course delivery includes guidance from expert faculty members of both IIMA and NSB. The program aids energy sector professionals in developing managerial skills and crucial competencies in concert with the energy sector. It prepares students for critical analysis and helps them apply learnt skills to real business situations. It also exposes to the practical applications of the knowledge and skills gained through internship and field visits.
The program on energy management becomes the first of its kind in the country and with the rigorous selection and cut-off process driven by IIMA for admissions based on CAT/XAT/GMAT scores, a current batch of 37 students is formed and started taking-off towards leadership path in energy sector
