Institutes of national importance like the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) have recently been started in these north eastern states. Thus, the North-east is well on its way to becoming an important hub of higher education in India.

In this article, let us take a look at the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology which is based at Papum Pare, Arunachal Pradesh.

The North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology was established in 1984 and is a deemed university under the Ministry of Human Resource Development. The institute is approved by AICTE. The campus is spread over a 500 acre plot and has all of the necessary modern infrastructure. The institute also has a training and placement cell, an education technology cell and various other committees for students.

The college conducts the NERIST entrance exam for admissions to various programs. The program in engineering stresses on various aspects of management and entrepreneurship as well. The college offers undergraduate programs in Agricultural engineering, Civil engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical engineering, Electronics and Communication engineering , Forestry and life sciences and Mechanical engineering.
