No directives about JEE Advanced to be conducted online yet, says JEE Advanced 2017 Chairman

A media report which surfaced yesterday (April 24), indicated the possibility of JEE Advanced being conducted on mobile phones. The report quoted a senior official without naming, that a committee has suggested the formation of a panel to focus on developing and testing the viability of an online platform for JEE Advanced.

PaGaLGuY got in touch with the Professor Prem B. Bisht, Chairman of IIT Madras, the organizing institute responsible for conducting JEE Advanced 2017, for answers. There is no such information conveyed to him as yet. “I have no details of any such information, as nothing of this sort has been conveyed to me as yet,” said Professor Bisht.

The media report further stated that suggestions of the committee has been tabled in a recent meeting conducted by the Joint Admission Board (JAB) and could be taken up by the IIT Council for discussion on Friday, April 28. The IIT council is the apex decision making body for the IITs across the country and the governing body includes IIT Madras as well.

However, the Chairman of the JEE Advanced 2017 organizing institute IIT Madras had no idea about the meeting. “There is no meeting scheduled on Friday as we will focus on the registrations for JEE Advanced now,” said Prof Bisht.

Although JEE Main 2017 saw the fourth consecutive year of online examinations, the JEE Advanced is still conducted offline. PaGaLGuY had earlier spoken to experts as to what makes students prefer offline mode for JEE Mains over online. The proposal to convert JEE Advanced online seems unlikely to come any time soon, keeping in mind the lack of interest of students in the online mode of examination in the last four years.

From around 11 Lakh candidates who applied for JEE Mains 2017, only 2 Lakh candidates will move forward to take the JEE Advanced 2017, scheduled to be conducted on May 21. The online registration for JEE Advanced will begin from April 28.
