NIT Silchar- Bank of Stones


National Institute of Technology, Silchar

Established in 1967 as a Regional Engineering College in Assam, the institute
was upgraded to the status of National Institute of Technology in 2002 and thus NIT, Silchar was born.

The campus is spread across 625 acres of
beautiful landscape. NIT Silchar is a fully residential campus. There are eight
hostels for boys and two hostels for girls, equipped with high-speed Internet access. The
institute has a State
Bank of India branch within
the campus. ATMs of PNB and SBI are also provided. There is also a cooperative
market, post office and a dispensary on campus. NIT Silchar also has a hard court for playing basketball and
is provided with hard courts for playing Volleyball and Badminton. It has got a
Lawn Tennis court within the campus. There are also grounds to play cricket and
football.

Life beyond the classroom

Several students of the college have spearheaded educational
drives like providing free primary education, coaching, counselling to the underprivileged
sections living around the vicinity of the campus. The technical festival Tecnoesis held
in October and cultural festival Incandescence held in February are much anticipated
festivals. Thundermarch is the
annual metal fest of NIT Silchar celebrated during Incandescence.

Placement History

Many organisations regularly recruit candidates from NIT
Silchar and are loyal to the institute. The placements have been consistently
good at the institute.
