The administration of the National Institute of Technology, Rourkela, has formed a fact-finding team following allegations of sexual harassment of a women security official. NIT students have accused Champatiray, the Chief Security Officer of NIT, of sexually exploiting his junior officer.
The students have sought the removal of the chief security officer and have decided to go on protest till their demands are met. “We have a strong video graphic evidence of the Chief Security Officer sexually exploiting his female subordinates whom he is supposed to protect. The incident happened inside the college premises,” said an NIT student.
The Director of the Institute said the matter is currently under investigation and any action will be taken only after the report is submitted. “Before coming to any conclusion, let the fact-finding team do its investigation. Only after the report is submitted, we will be in a position to take any action in this matter,” said Sunil Kumar, Director, NIT Rourkela.
Female students of the Institute have also expressed their concern over their security. “We don’t trust our security agency. How are we going to feel safe in such circumstances? We want the chief security officer of the institute to be suspended and also strict punitive action to be taken against him,” said a female student of NIT.
