National Institute of Technology, Meghalaya
The classes of NIT Meghalaya were started in
2010 at the Sardar
Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat.
The institute presently functions from its temporary campus at the Bijni
Complex located in Shillong.
The foundation stone of NIT Meghalaya at
Cherrapunjee (Sohra) was laid by Union Minister for IT and Human Resource
Development Kapil Sibal in October 2012. The Institute has been allotted a plot
of land of about 300 acres in Sohra, Cherrapunjee in the East Khasi Hills
district of Meghalaya for its permanent campus. The first phase of construction
will make available some academic and administrative buildings, a Boys hostels with
a capacity of 1500, Girls hostel with a capacity of 400, 120 residences, guest
houses, a Health Centre, 1500 capacity auditorium, an Indoor stadium. Utilities
like Power sub-station and a reservoir for rain water harvesting will also be
built.

institute proposes to start B. tech programmes in Instrumentation and Food
Processing disciplines from the 2015-16 session. M.Sc and MBA programmes in
various specializations shall be started soon. PhD degrees are also awarded in
many fields.
