National Institute of Technology, Durgapur

The Regional Engineering College, Durgapur, was established by an Act of Parliament in 1960 as one of the eight RECs aimed to promote excellence in engineering. It was renamed The National Institute of Technology, Durgapur in July 2003.

National Institute of Technology, Durgapur is a residential Institute. There are seven hostels for boys and two hostels for girls. There are two canteens on campus. Most of the teachers and the staff members reside in the residential quarters provided by the Institute. There is a Shopping Complex on campus for the daily requirement of the residents.
A model school has been set up for the wards of the employees of the Institute. Also there is a branch of State Bank of India, a branch of Canara Bank and a Post-Office within the Institute Campus.

The Institute has a Physical Training Department for the students. Students are trained in various sports and games by well experienced and qualified coaches arranged by the Department of Physical Training. Outdoor activities like Cricket, Football, and Hockey are played on the two open grounds. There are courts for Volleyball and Basketball. Indoor game facilities are available in the student’s hostels. There is a Student Activity Centre, which has an Indoor Auditorium and a Gymnasium with latest equipment. The Auditorium provides Table-tennis and Badminton facilities. Every year, inter-college Cricket and Football Tournaments are organized in the Institute.

Studying at NITD

NITD awards B.Tech., M.C.A., M.Sc., M.B.A.,M.Tech. and Ph.D. degrees to students. The Institute imparts education in the disciplines of Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Information Technology, Biotechnology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Environmental science, Materials Science and Management Studies.

Life beyond the classroom

The students run many hobby clubs like Photography club, Music club, Science club, Debate club and Fine Arts club. The Institute hosts its annual cultural festival ‘RECSTACY‘ for 4 nights and 3 days towards the end of February. Other Fests include Mukti, The Quizzitch Cup, Motor Zundung, Ank and Verve. Mukti is the annual national level technical symposium on Linux and FOSS. Aarohan is the annual National level Techno-Management festival organised by the students.

Placement History

NITD holds its own in terms of placements. Students are recruited by many multinational and Indian companies.
