Founded as the Tripura Engineering College in 1965 this college was declared a National Institute of Technology (NIT) in 2006. NIT Agartala or NITA is located in Agartala, Tripura, India.
The institute was made residential from the 2007 – 2008 session with the opening of two boys hostels and one girls hostel. The campus is now totally connected through Wi-Fi. A plan is under preparation for 335 acres of land where a new campus will be built. The Institute is getting a 33 kilovolt dedicated power supply through Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited, for uninterrupted power supply in the campus. The Institute has also obtained a grant of 12 crore rupees from DoNER for the development of infrastructure.
At the undergraduate level (B. E. / B.
Tech.), this institute offers 757 seats in 13 different branches. Selections to
these seats is done on the basis of a student’s All India Rank in the JEE Main
