IIT Tirupati which started functioning in July, 2015 has been upgrading labs and classrooms in its transit campus. PaGaLGuY had previously reported that the students had been grumbling over the lack of facilities, the authorities at IIT Tirupati (IITT) had requested patience to solve the teething issues. With the beginning of the second academic semester in January 2016 IITT authorities decided to make infrastructure of facilities a priority.
The new labs and equipment are a necessity for the second semester starting from January, which is why it was geared up as a priority. “Being a new IIT we want to be cautious in our spending of the fund allocated. Also there is no point in just blocking the funds for various demands without proper planning,” says Prof. Rao, IIT-Tirupati.
The students now have new lab apparatus to work with from January. Some of these students had complained about the lack of WiFi connectivity in the hostel as being a major concern for them. That too has now been addressed as WiFi is now active at hostels too. “Now that it has been enabled it has reduced a lot of hassles for us. We no longer have to stay back in the campus for any work involving internet.” says a student of the civil engineering department.
It’s not just the academic infrastructure that has been improved, but also the sports equipments has been made available for the students. They earlier used to visit a nearby school to engage in any sports. The jubilation over the first cricket kit was evident when students even took to social media to post about the development in November, 2015.
A New year and new academic semester with new equipments: a lot seems to be in store for the pioneer batch of IITT.
