Maharashtra government medical/dental colleges have received 184 MBBS and 36 Dental seats from the 15% AIQ (All India Quota) seats, that was scheduled to be filled by MCC (Medical Counselling Committee). The total number of MBBS and BDS seats under 15% AIQ across the country was 3820 of which 481 seats were from Maharashtra government medical and dental colleges. The MCC has not yet published the total number of seats returned to the respective states after their scheduled two rounds of counselling which concluded on September 20, for filling the 15% AIQ seats in government medical/dental colleges.
At the end of the first round of counselling, there were 1,886 seats (162 BDS and 1,724 MBBS) vacant under 15% AIQ across the country. On September 20, the apex court had ordered a stay on the transfer of 15% AIQ seats to the states. However, on September 23, in the case Subhash Kumar & ORS vs UOI & URS, the SC ordered transferring the vacant seats to the respective state authorities.
The Grant Government Medical College (GGMC), Mumbai has the highest number of vacant MBBS seats (15), surrendered to the state followed by GMC (Government Medical College & Hospital), Aurangabad (14 seats) and BJGMC (Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Government Medical College), Pune (13 seats). Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) has published the third section list for admission in the government medical/dental colleges across the state on their website. The selection of candidates for the vacant seats will take place based on their MHT-CET 2016 scores.
The medical aspirants need to report and join the respective colleges before September 28, 2016. They need to fill the ‘Status Retention’ form at the respective colleges as well, within the time limit.
