MBA @ IIT Bombay: A glimpse

As I stared at the banner which read: “Farewell to 2015 batch“, my mind was flooded with the memories of the 2 year long journey which was no less than a roller coaster ride.

Like any other good story, my story could be divided into 3 parts: Initiation, Progression and Completion.

Initiation:

Date: 10th January, 2013

Place: Shankar Bhavan, BITS-Pilani

The sun had just begun its run for the day. I lay asleep in my hostel when my phone started singing and dancing.

‘Hello Ma’, I said without opening my eyes.

Guessing the name of the person on the other end was no rocket science. Of all the people in my contacts my mother was the only person who would rise daily at 6 AM.

I tried opening my eyes but they refused to obey.

‘Good Morning, beta!’, she greeted me with an elated tone.

I greeted her back, my eyes still closed.

She then allowed a pause to creep into the conversation as if she wanted to stress on the words she was about to speak.

Finally, her excitement got the better of her and she said something which left my eyes wide open.

Progression:

Date: 12th July, 2013

Place: IIT Bombay

“An umbrella can always come handy, consider packing a boat if your B-school is in Mumbai”, a blog had read.

No sooner did I land in Mumbai than I learnt the blogger was not kidding. Mumbai Monsoons had left no stone unturned in welcoming me. Calling it a “warm-welcome” would be an oxymoron, considering the low mercury levels.

The memories of 10th January flooded my mind as I entered the class-room. It was the day when my mother had announced my CAT score over a phone call.

The class consisted of a small batch of engineers with diverse backgrounds. The next 2 years flew past us. The continual stream of assignments, case-studies, extra-curricular activities, Industrial sessions etc. managed to keep us on our toes. If not anything a B-school teaches you that night-outs are overrated and how they can leave you craving for a good nights’ sleep.

Completion:

Date: April, 2015

Place: SJMSOM, IIT Bombay

Now, 2 years later, I can’t help but retrospect my life at this B-School. The memories of the frequent visits to ‘Gulmohar’, the epiphanies at the Powai Lake, late night discussions in ANC flashed through my mind. All these were just the icing; the real cake was the people I befriended here: all of my batch mates, most of my seniors and some of my juniors.

If given a chance I am sure everyone of us would like to re-live our last 2 years again; not because we wanted to change something, but because it was worth re-living.

MBA is not about hardworking; it is about networking. Life at a B-school is an enriching experience which would be treasured by everyone who experiences it.

The End? A new start? You choose…
