After 4 years of rich experience in the Philippines, Joritz Philip L Cabriga was ready for a new challenge. This is when he applied to SP Jain’s multi-city Master of Global Business (MGB) program with an aim to be part of a bigger world – to go out of his comfort zone and explore global opportunities.
What was Joritz’s experience with the program like? How did SP Jain help him land a coveted internship at IGPI? Let’s find out.
Q. How have the last 12 months at various SP Jain campuses shaped you? What did you like the most about the program?
It has been an amazing experience! SP Jain provides you with a global learning setup, intercultural interactions, and real-life simulations. The professors have the highest expertise in their own fields. Different learning approaches make the class dynamic and interactive, giving the students a safe place to learn.
There are a lot of industry visits and speakers who share their real-life experiences that are truly inspiring and can be benchmarked. My favourite part is the Global Learning Activities. Aside from offering a rigorous curriculum, SP Jain helps balance our studies and entertainment. We can enjoy and learn at the same time.
Q. What was your experience with the MGB Professional Readiness Program?
I genuinely feel that the Professional Readiness Program (PRP) helped me greatly in practical applications and exposure. Since I came from a province, the job competition was not really that stiff, so I wasn’t aware of the nature of the global job market. With PRP, I was able to experience mock interviews, evaluations and mentoring with experts, cracked cases and learnt how to properly frame my answers. I was also able to greatly enhance my CV.
Q. You have landed an internship with IGPI, a leading consulting firm in Singapore. How did you find out about this role? Why did you choose this organisation to intern with?
I found this opportunity through Mr David Lim, the Deputy Director of the CR team of Singapore. At first, I was sceptical about it since I didn’t have any background in Consulting. I didn’t know what to expect, but I then studied about the company, and to my surprise, it was exactly what I was looking for. They have this diverse exposure to different industries, flat hierarchy, formal and informal trainings, the building of an entrepreneurial mindset, and continuous learning opportunities that are all ingredients to my cravings for success.
Q. What was your interview experience with IGPI? Could you tell us how you stood out from the other candidates and landed this role?
My interview experience with IGPI was really great and exciting. The first level was about technical knowledge. I talked more about my research in the past, the thought processes behind it and so on. The second level was about personality, work ethics, and visions, and the third level was motivational. All levels were unique in their own way, and you really have to prepare for it. Fortunately, I was guided by my mentor from PRP, Ms Monika Kamat. I’m really grateful.
Q. What are you looking forward to the most from your IGPI experience?
Of course, I always look forward to learning. It’s said that we must grow where we are planted. I want to grow here and go to other places when I am ready to plant another seed.
Q. What advice would you give future students about starting their MGB journey? How can they make the most of the SP Jain experience?
SP Jain actually is a great business school. We have the resources, connections, and learnings. It’s up to the students to utilise all of these and make the most out of them. Before joining SP Jain, have a vision, a goal, and a plan, and work hard for that. Be prepared mentally, psychologically, physically, and emotionally.
