Luck! We people love this word, don’t we? and use it as a cushion to hide our failures and inadequacies. Whenever anything goes wrong, we resort to this fascinating 4 letter word and Voila! What do we accomplish – instant satisfaction as we have just shifted the blame to something other than us and that something has always fascinated me.
I have often wondered whether Luck Factor is involved or not, because this holds immense importance. If it is all about luck, then all our efforts might go down the drain for something not in our control and then, the motivation to go all out goes missing. But luck might also shine and we might make it easily than others. So, Luck is a dicey thing and, hence, a fascinating topic.
The people who leave everything to Luck could not be more wrong. These are the people who use luck to hide their failures and end up achieving little. So, it is better if we keep the luck factor out of the window and give our best shot at everything, hoping things turn out to be picture perfect. Being optimistic does not guarantee success, it only increases the probability of success and that is not bad either. We can still get an appalling decision when you are batting on 99.That is bad luck. But, can we do anything about it? The answer is NO. So, why not direct our efforts at achieving the desired goal and leave Luck to unknown forces.
This world consists of two things – things that are under our control and others that we can do nothing about. All those things in the second category collectively form the mysterious thing that luck is. Like, losing our loved ones when we need them the most and in the process miss out on something that we have been working for a long time, getting a thumb fractured on the eve of World Cup Final, there are examples galore where we are robbed of something, which is of paramount importance to us and to our attainment of goals. But then, this is life and it does move on.So, why should we be stuck up with the past failures?
We look at individuals and say – He just got plain lucky!!! I can’t quite decipher that. We see his accomplishments but not the long hours he put in. I love this line – “ After 20 years of hard work, I became an instant success ”. And people say – Lucky Fellow. IRONICAL!!!
Luck can open the first door but it will never open the last door. Luck can give us a jolt but it can’t keep us away from success for long. If we persevere, success will be ours as it is waiting in the wings for people who don’t sell themselves short.
So, to conclude, Luck is there but it does not guarantee permanent success or permanent failure. If we just take it in our stride, WE SHALL PREVAIL!!!
