One of the most common queries that students have is the likely cutoff for selection to various colleges. Which are the different colleges that I may get selected to? What is the score/rank needed for selection to a highly reputed branch at a top college? These questions trouble each and every student (and parent). Accordingly, we bring to you this series of articles on cutoffs for admission to colleges in Maharashtra that offer undergraduate programs in engineering and technology. In these articles, we would take a look at the closing ranks for admissions to the colleges in Maharashtra in the academic year 2014-15. This would give you a good idea of the expected cutoffs for the academic year 2015-16.
Do note that admissions to engineering colleges in the state of Maharashtra are based on candidates’ performance in the JEE (Main) exam and in their 12th board exams. For each candidate, a composite score is calculated wherein 50% of the weight is given to the candidate’s performance in the JEE (Main) – Paper 1 and the remaining 50% weight is given to the percentile secured by the candidate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in his board exams. A merit list is then prepared on the basis of each candidate’s composite score. Candidates are admitted to various engineering colleges in Maharashtra on the basis of this merit list.
