A committee lead by the District Collector and formed by state government of Rajasthan for checking stress among coaching students in Kota has decided to hire services of Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS). The aim of this research is to identify and suggest measures to check stress among coaching students in Kota.
The Kota district administration had issued separate guidelines to the coaching institutes and hostels of Kota City in the last one year’s time to check stress among students and ensure a better environment for the students in Kota but such initiatives have apparently not helped in checking student suicides. With no decline in student stress and suicides in the coaching hub at Kota so far, the committee headed by Dr Ravi Kumar Surpur, District Collector, Kota and comprising of members including Sunita Daga, Additional District Magistrate, Administration, Kota, Anant Kumar, Additional SP, Kota City, Dr Devendra Vijayvargiya, a psychiatrist, and other members have now decided to employ the services of TISS.
“TISS will be asked to submit its report in one-and-a-half, to two months period to the committee, which will be sent to the State government”, Dr Surpur said. Later guidelines and legal provisions for the coaching institutes can be made on the basis of the recommendations of the agency.
Dr Surpur revealed that the work orders to the agency, TISS, would be issued before the end of this month.
A total of 16 coaching students have committed suicide in Kota so far this year.
